Peter Uihlen will remember Portugal forever


    This is his first great victory in the European tour. Some relevant facts are:

    His first European Tour International Schedule victory in his 16th European Tour event.

    •    Moves to inside the top 150 in the Official World Golf Ranking, from 246th.

    •    Beats his previous best European Tour performance of fourth in the 2013 Tshwane Open.

    •    This victory is his third top ten finish from his seven events so far on The European Tour this season. Was also tied eighth in the Open de España.

    •    Become the sixth first-time winner of the 2013 season. He would follow: Scott Jamieson (Nelson Mandela Championship presented ISPS Handa), Chris Wood (Commercial Bank Qatar Masters), Matt Kuchar (World Golf Championships – Accenture Match Play Championship), Dawie Van Der Walt (Tshwane Open) and Kiradech Aphibarnrat (Maybank Malaysian Open).

    •    Becomes the first European Challenge Tour Member to win on The European Tour since Martin Wiegele won the 2010 SAINT-OMER OPEN presented by Neuflize OBC.

    •    The first American to win the Madeira Islands Open – Portugal – BPI.

    •    The 12th different country to win the Madeira Islands Open – Portugal – BPI.

    •    Follows Santiago Luna (1995), Pedro Linhart (1999), Niclas Fasth (2000), Bradley Dredge (2003), Chris Hanell (2004), Robert-Jan Derksen (2005), Daniel Vancsik (2007), Estanislao Goya (2009), James Morrison (2010) and Ricardo Santos (2012), as players to make the Madeira Islands Open – Portugal – BPI their first European Tour victory.

    •    His victory comes in his maiden appearance in the Madeira Islands Open – Portugal – BPI.

    •    The first player to win the Madeira Islands Open – Portugal – BPI on their debut since James Morrison in 2010.

    Great report Luso.

    Uihlein has been playing well and great result for him. Will be interesting now that he has the two year exemption whether he will gravitate back to the US which I think was always the long term plan.
