PGA Tour Rookie, Mackenzie Hughes emerged from a five man playoff to take home the RSM Classic at Sea Island Golf Club. Hughes shot an opening round of 9-under par 61 to take the early lead and never looked back. He held the lead or share of the lead after each round of competition.
When the final putt dropped on Sunday five players were tied a top the leaderboard. In the fading light of day they headed to a sudden death playoff. They could only squeeze in two holes and a winner was not determined. The four players that were left headed to the par 3 17th hole on Monday morning to determine the champion. Hughes holed an 18 foot par save on and no one could match making Hughes the winner.
This is the young Canadians first PGA Tour victory.
Hughes relied on the Pro/SL golf shoe throughout the week in Sea Island.
The win earns Hughes an invite into the 2017 Tournament of Champions and the 2017 Masters Tournament.
Good win by the rookie. Weird that only one in five could make par on the par 3. Last man standing.
Congratulations on his maiden victory! Wishing on many more to come!
Another great Canadian!! Golf is in great shape!!
Congratulations to Mackenzie. Good to see the rookie making good on the tour and looking in his PRO/SLs.
Nice to see the younger guys win and especially the fact that he is rookie makes it even sweeter
The PGA Tour is changing rapidly. There are so many guys that can win. Congrats to another first time winner.....He's got game, for sure.....
Well that did not take long, and a Masters invite to boot. Congratulations !!
that was quite a playoff. Congratulations to the rookie on his first win. Also saw Billy Horschel eliminate himself with his 2 foot miss. Shows that we need to focus always. I noticed his (BH) liked his FJ shield tips.
