Mikael Lundberg won the Lyoness Open thanks to a holed 40-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to clip fellow FJ Staffer Bernd Wiesberger in the sudden death format.

Lundberg grabbed the early tournament lead with rounds of 67 and 68, then struggled with a 76 on the third day to fall six back.  His final round began with birdies on four of the first five holes, shooting up the leaderboard in the process.  Lundberg then made four more birdies in a five hole stretch on the back nine to set the lead in the clubhouse at 12 under par.

"Today just started off really well on the first couple of holes. I made some really nice putts that changed the whole attitude," said Lundberg.

Hometown favorite, Bernd Wiesberger matched the 12 under par total and the players headed to the playoff.  Wiesberger grasped the early advantage on the par-3 18th by striking his approach to 18 feet.  Lundberg's settled a lengthy 40 feet from the cup, which he then holed for a birdie two. Wiesberger could not match the birdie giving Lundberg his first victory since 2008.

Lundeberg relied on the all new D.N.A. golf shoe and the SciFlex glove en route to victory.

  • Great win and another win for FootJoy. Nice to see his winning again.

  • What a putt! Great win for sure.

  • A fantastic way to win a tourney.  This guy must have been super pumped to win in such dramatic fashion.

Plus, he was looking stylish in those FJ DNA shoes.

Amazing that 71% of the field wore FJ shoes.  That's domination too, much like how Titleist Pro V1's dominant the ball market on tour.

Too bad FJ isn't having a contest for this victory of the type where "When the FJ player wins, you can win their model of shoes".

I already have FJ Contour Casuals plus an ancient pair of older FJ's, but a pair of those DNA's would be sweet.

  • Great win.
