  • My new SYNR-G's just arrived...

So I just got a pair of the SYNR-G's and I can't wait to get them out on the course.  I've been switching between my GF IIs and DryJoys for the past couple of years but decided it was time for a new pair to go into the line-up.  I'm hoping to get 72 holes in this weekend, so I'll be sure to come back and write a full review.

How do the new FJ Icon shoes compare to the Classic Dry Premier shoe in terms of comfort? It is a bit disappointing that I will not be able to get CDPs in the future, these are all I have worn for many years.

Well, this is a tough question to answer as everyone's feet are different but we can assure you that the new FJ ICON shoes have several new advancements that should give you a very comfortable and precise fit and ride in addition to the stability and performance you expect from premium FootJoy golf shoes. We actually borrowed some of the technology found in other best selling categories like SYNR-G (memory foam lined collar/tongue) and DryJoys (Dual OptiFlex Zones in the outsole) so FJ ICON truly represents the "best of the best" FootJoy technology. One sentiment that I can share from speaking with the Tour pros and from wearing them myself, is that FJ ICON is lighter and the CDP's, especially in wet conditions. But, like I said, everyone is different. All I can recommend is that you go to your nearest FJ dealer and try them on for yourself!  Please let us know if you would like more information/comparisons and we'll do our best to respond.

    Thanks,

    Chris

  • FootJoy's exceptional customer service

I just wanted to thank FootJoy for backing its products so incredibly over the past 20 years. They've earned my loyalty because of this. I've probably owned no less than 25 pair of FJ's and whenever I've had a concern they've stepped up to the plate and resolved it to my satisfaction and beyond. I walk my very hilly golf course and weigh 225 lbs so I'm very hard on shoes. Recently, I sent back a pair of Gel Fusions that were out of warrantee because the sole had come apart. I had zero expectations but FootJoy replaced them with a pair Reel Fits which cost more than the Gel Fusions! This was not the first time they've done this. What a great company! I'll be a loyal and happy customer for life.

Anybody else have any stories about this to share? Ted

I have played in tournaments, in club championships and on the weekends with the guys and my Foot Joy Classics Tour shoes with Optiflex are the most comfortable and high performance shoes I have ever owned.  In fact they are the only shoes I will ever compete in.

Having read the posts on this forum I was resigned to not being able to get hold of the new FJ Icon Style # 52088 until mid to late September.

Imagine my luck when I was out at Liberty National GC today for a meeting and stopped by the pro shop - great looking pro shop by the way.

10 mins later I was the owner of a brand new pair of Icon's style 52088 in black - great style, incredible comfort.

Can't wait to head back home to Scotland in a couple of weeks and wear them on the great golfing links of Royal Dornoch, The Old Course, Muirfield, Prestwick and Kingsbarns...might even keep them on for the post round Macalllan scotch!

    Thanks Footjoy!

I just ordered up a new pair of the FJ Icon with the BOA lacing system! I got to try out the new contour they have with the same BOA system and it felt just amazing! The Icon I did not get to try on yet, but everything seems to fit the same with FJ so I think I will be fine with my usual size.

Anyone else out there that has the shoes already or has them on order? What are your thoughts on the BOA lacing system?

How will the Icon Laser Last compare to the FJ Classics last?  I am going to pull the trigger on a pair of Icons asap and was wondering if I should go up, down, or keep the same size and width.  Any insight to this would be greatly appreciated.

    Tim

    Hi Tim,

I just spoke with Mike Foley, Dir. of Footwear Marketing and he provided this response to your question:

"The ICON laser last was developed to fit the same as the Classics Laser last from heel up to the ball of the foot.  The only difference is the modified contemporary toe shape on the ICON laser last which will offer a little more room in the forepart of the shoe.  The primary fit characteristics should be the same overall and should not necessitate a size change."

    Hope this helps?

I cant decide whether the feel of the SYNR-G's is worth it to wear them because i like the looks of CDPs, and ICONs, etc. so much better. Are they really that comfortable?

I know my posts probably come with a certain level of bias, but you really can't go wrong with either SYNR-G or FJ ICON in terms of comfort. The introduction of memory foam around the collar and in the tongue of the SYNR-G shoe, which you will also find in the FJ ICON line, positions these shoes above anything else on the market for fit and comfort. I would suggest you try them both on. The comfort should be very similar in both so it may just come down to style preference.

I see lots of posts about men's shoes -- and I thought women were the ones with a shoe fetish! Does anyone love LoPros as much as I do? It's so nice to be able to buy a pair of golf shoes and know you can go right out and walk 18 with no problems. Digging the new zebra print, and the white/red/deep blue will be perfect for Solheim Cup weekend!

I like to run often on the course. Whether it's just from a cartpath out to my ball or up a hillside, I like to get some exercise in. Does anyone recommend a good shoe that has the best of both worlds - running and golf?
