  • It's MyJoys May in Europe

The FootJoy team in Europe just concluded a great promotion called MyJoys May that culminated in a group of 8 FJ players wearing MyJoys shoes that were hand picked by website visitors.

We caught up with Richard Fryer, our FJ European Marketing Manager to tell us a little about how MyJoys May came about ...

"Everyone loves to know what shoes the Tour guys are wearing, and we thought why not let the consumer choose! Really, its the only piece of equipment that we can throw open to the everyday club golfer to choose on behalf of the player.

The BMW PGA at Wentworth is the flagship event on the European Tour so we felt that this would be the perfect event to showcase the shoes. The fact that both MyJoys and May start with the same letter was just a coincidence....! So we spoke to all the key players and got them to design 3 pairs of shoes through our website www.myjoys.co.uk and to let us have the designs.

The idea initially began inviting news subscribers to design a pair from scratch for Titleist and FJ Staffer Kenneth Ferrie. Kenny went through the hundreds of entries and selected a pair of white sheild tip FJ ICON MyJoys with a lime patent saddle and a pink patent accent - they looked superb! Here's a photo of him wearing them with the winning designer Chris Pyle, a 4 handicapper from Hull.

We then put up the website www.myjoysmay.co.uk which featured eight prominent European FJ players and consumer got to vote on one of the 3 designs on the players' shortlist. A live leaderboard would then generate to show which design was in the lead. This was then backed up by some banner advertising on the major websites in the UK to allow even more golfers to get involved.

MyJoys has had a great start to the year, with the addition of 4 FJ ICON styles to the MyJoys programme golfers across Europe are ordering some great designs and really taking advantage of the seemingly endless number of customisation options."

Tour pros the world over are embracing the fashion, fun that MyJoys has to offer.  Build yours today by visiting your local golf retailer or by visiting MyJoys.com.

  • Hunter Mahan Clutch Down the Stretch to Win Waste Management Open; Enter FJ WINS, YOU WIN Sweeps

    Add Comment

Hunter Mahan won the Waste Management Phoenix Open for his second PGA TOUR title Sunday, closing with a second consecutive bogey-free 6-under 65 to come from four strokes down. He becomes the seventh player in the season's first nine events to win wearing FootJoy golf shoes and the second consecutive to win wearing FJ ICON MyJoys. Hunter also relied on a StaSof glove.

The 27-year-old Mahan had an eagle and a pair of birdies in a late four-hole span Sunday to finish at 16-under 268. Since winning the 2007 Travelers Championship, Mahan has continued to improve each year. He played on the 2008 Ryder Cup team and had six top-10s in 2009, including a runner-up finish at the AT&T National.

"It's just finding a way to win. I just haven't been able to do it," he said. "So obviously it feels great to get off the year on my fifth tournament to win. It gives me a lot of confidence in myself that I'm doing the right things in my game, and it feels great, it really does."

The shot of the tournament for Mahan came at the par-5 13th when he hit his second shot from 250 yards to within seven feet and made the eagle putt to reach 14-under par. His 18-foot birdie putt on the par-4 14th moved him into the lead and then the clincher came at the notorious 16th, the par 3 surrounded by bleachers filled with noisy, irreverent fans who cheer and boo with equal enthusiasm.

Mahan's tee shot caught the edge of the green and he made the subsequent 14-foot putt to regain the lead at 16 under and he would never look back.

** During the 2010 PGA Tour season, when FJ WINS, YOU WIN. Enter now for your chance to win a pair of FJ ICON golf shoes and a StaSof glove just like Hunter wore during the final round Sunday.

Lee Westwood (FJ ICON, PureTouch Limited) fired a course record 8-under 64 Sunday to run away from the field with a six shot victory at the Dubai World Championship. The 36-year-old shot four rounds in the 60's to finish the week with a 23-under total and lead the way for FJ players who swept the top four positions on the leaderboard. Ross McGowan (FJ ICON style #52070, StaSof glove) carded a final round 68, including five straight birdies from the 12th, to secure second place at 17-under after a sustained charge from Rory McIlroy (FJ ICON MyJoys, PureTouch Limited) who birdied five holes on the back nine to finish third at 15-under. Padraig Harrington (SYNR-G style #53918, PureTouch Limited) finished in a tie for fourth.

Westwood also secured the season-long Race to Dubai and recognition as the European Number One for the second time in his career. He came to the final event trailing Rory McIlroy. Westwood's victory was the 32nd victory worldwide as a professional and his second victory on The European Tour this season. It also moves Westwood up to World Number Four in the Official World Golf Rankings, matching his highest career position.

“I’m delighted to be standing here and it’s got to be the best day of my golfing career. I think that's about as good as I've ever played under this pressure," said Westwood.

“Hopefully there will be more, maybe a Major in the future. Some of the young players coming through, like Rory McIlroy, put me under a lot of pressure so it will be tough. I’m going to enjoy the rest of 2009.”

  • FJ ICON the One for All at the Walker Cup Matches

Recognized as the preeminant amateur team event, the Walker Cup is a men's amateur competition played every other year between a squad from the United States and another representing Great Britain and Ireland. It always features some of the very best young players who you will soon be watching compete on professional tours around the world.

While there are many differences between the two sides, when this year's 42nd Walker Cup Match was played at the 6,846-yard Merion Golf Club, the 10 players on each side had one very important equipment choice in common...they all chose to wear the new FJ ICON golf shoes from FootJoy. The teams chose two styles each, one for the morning fourball matches and one for the afternoon singles matches.

The United States team, which defeated the GB&I team 16.5 - 9.5 to win for the third consecutive time, wore the FJ ICON white pebble, traditional saddle (style #52005) during the morning matches and the new white and black sport saddle (style #52070) during the afternoon. The GB&I team opted for custom shoes through FootJoy's MyJoys program that featured their team logo on the heel of the shoes. They also wore the white pebble traditional saddle in the morning but opted for a white and black saddle (style #52039) in the afternoon.

Overall, it was the third consecutive win for the Americans, who now hold a 34-7-1 all-time record in the Walker Cup. Check out some images below.
