Chris Wood finally ended his European Tour title drought in dramatic circumstances at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters. It also proved to be a historical day for FootJoy as he became the first player to win in an FJ Spikeless golf shoe (FJ SPORT Spikeless).

The 25 year old Englishman began the final round with a three shot lead but after a nervy start the lead turned into a two shot deficit after nine holes. Wood however showed great guile during his back nine – making seven pars and one birdie. As he stood on the eighteenth he needed to make a birdie to force his way into a playoff. The Bristolian crunched a drive right down the centre of the fairway and a precision six iron to ten feet left him with his opportunity.

Wood then sunk the eagle putt and he celebrated with two fist-pumps – which showed what it meant after three runner-up finishes and 19 top-tens in previous tournaments.
“There’s an enormous weight lifted off my shoulders today,” Wood commented. “I feel like I can go on and win more."

Continuing he added. "I knew it was going to be hard no matter how I played - winning on The European Tour is not easy. I've been knocking on the door in previous times and it's not happened. To get it today, to get my first win, it's such an honor. I'm so pleased.”

Wood was clearly impressed with his footwear and the winner stated: "I loved the look of the shoes as soon as I saw them, and the fit and comfort was unbelievable, straight out of the box."

Wood’s 69 gave him an 18 under par total of 270 and that takes from 142nd on the Official World Golf Ranking into the top 64, giving him the opportunity to compete in the WGC-Accenture Match Play in Arizona next month, although the cut-off is not for another two weeks.

George Coetzee (FJ ICON™ and StaSof®) helped make it a one - two finish for FootJoy with a fantastic round of 65 on the final day.
