Rory McIlroy has added a second Major Championship to his already stellar resume, blowing away the field by a record-setting eight shots to win this week's PGA Championship at the Ocean Course on Kiawah Island. McIlroy's first major triumph, the 2011 U.S. Open was won by the same margin.
Rory (FJ Sport and Pure Touch) opened the week with a five under par 67 to solidly place himself near the top of the leaderboard. Entering the weekend two strokes off, Rory c
arded another 67 to claim outright leader by three shots going in to Sunday.
Rory, then, put on a display of pure golfing ability over the final 18 holes, making six birdies, several gutsy par saves, and most importantly, no bogies en route to his eight shot romp. The 23 year old, multiple major winner added post round, "It was a great round of golf. I'm speechless." Continuing, "It's just been incredible. I had a good feeling about it at the start. I never imagined to do this."
The major win moves Rory to number one on the official world golf rankings and into the number two spot in the FedEx Cup race. McIlroy also becomes the second youngest player to win two majors.
