FJ Ambassador Kenneth Ferrie secured victory in a play-off to win the Austrian GolfOpen after an exhilarating final round.
Ferrie fired a final round 67 to finish on 12 under par for the week at Diamond Country Club before triumphing at the first extra hole.
Ferrie relied on FJ ICON (52005) and lead with FJ StaSof en route to claiming the first place cheque of €166,660.00
For the play-off both players returned to 18. Although Ferrie didn’t hit an ideal tee-shot he produced a terrific approach to six feet . He had two putts for the title, although he showed his class only needing one.
This was Ferrie’s third European Tour win and first in 6 years, and he was truly elated after his win.
“It means the world to me. I have been working very hard and doing all the right things but I just haven’t had the results to back it up. So to win here, under the pressure of a play-off, is amazing and it makes all the hard work worthwhile.”
The win comes after a difficult five years for the 2005 European Open champion, who endured a difficult couple of seasons on the US PGA Tour and only kept his European Tour card thanks to a strong finish last season.
With this win Ferrie moves up to 55th on the Race to Dubai, placing him just inside the illusive top 60 who will battle it out for the most coveted prize in European Golf at The Dubai World Championship.
