FJ ambassador Matteo Manassero (FJ Sport & StaSof) earned himself a €288,465 birthday present this weekend by winning the Maybank Malaysian Open. The Italian, who turns 18 on Tuesday, overcame the challenge posed from three fellow FJ ambassadors; Gregory Bourdy, Rory McIlroy and Rafael Cabrera-Bello.

Manassero became the European Tour’s youngest ever winner in Spain last year when he won the Castello Masters. With this win the 17 year-old now holds the top two positions on this list.

The leaders had 27 holes to play on Sunday after a six hour weather delay earlier in the week. It was McIlroy who immediately extended his two shot over night lead with a birdie at the third, but the 21 year-old Northern Irishman was passed by Manassero who produced some brilliance on his way to victory. This was evident at the par five 10th, where the Italian holed a 9 iron for eagle, setting him on his way to victory. Walking down the last, Manassero required a par to hold of the challenge from Bourdy, and the teenager showed a great calmness, to complete his task without any drama.

Speaking after his win Manassero commented “It feels amazing – it’s a great achievement. As I always say I could never have expected to have one win before I was 18 and now I’ve got two”.

With a shoe count of 65% and the top three players lacing up in FJ shoes, it is clear to see that FJ is still the #1 Shoe in Golf.
