This week’s FJ Tour Diary entry comes from Malaysia.
Greetings from a very hot, sticky and stormy Malaysia!
Wow, it is humid here! With the temperature hovering around the early to mid thirties, we are seriously out of our comfort zone! Up to 75% humidity is wreaking havoc with the players this week. It is not just the heat factor the players have to deal with. Dehydration, cramps, dizziness, sweating and swelling hands and feet are all part and parcel of competing in this part of the world.
We saw many of our FJ ambassadors change their usual glove size, in favour of a bigger or cadet glove. This was required due to the fact that their hands had swollen in the conditions, and allowed them to get back to the superior feel they have come to expect from FJ gloves. Another interesting observation was that a few of our FJ Ambassadors elected to ditch their standard StaSof or SciFlex glove, in favour of a RainGrip. Sweaty and slippery gloves are a disaster for any golfer, let alone the world’s elite, so it was interesting to watch them rely on the highly versatile RainGrip to provide them with grip they required.
Another advantage some of our FJ Ambassadors have this week, were the FJ Performance ProDry shirts. In conditions such as these, it is imperative that your skin can breathe in the most efficient way possible. The FJ Performance ProDry Pique shirts help wick away moisture from the body, therefore allowing your body to remain at a constant temperature and avoid the build up of sweat. FJ Ambassador Peter Lawrie received his first batch of the FJ Performance ProDry Lisle shirts, and put them straight into use this week. Peter wore style number 96945 in the Pro-Am on Wednesday.
This week signals the first defence of a title for FJ Ambassador and Asian Order of Merit winner, Seung-Yul Noh. Seung-Yul captured his maiden European Tour victory in this event last year, and will be looking to make a solid defence of his title.
Indian, Shiv Kapur picked up 2 new pairs of FJ ICON for the 3 week stretch is Asia, and Felipe Aguilar will be picking up a new pair of shoes in Korea in a couple of weeks time. Englishman, Gary Boyd wears the same range of clothing as fellow FJ Ambassador, Ian Poulter. This means Gary is partial to a bit of colour and has ordered a couple of pairs of MyJoys to match his new gear. Gary loves the Asymmetric design and here are his two designs below -
Base: White SmoothSaddle: Green Smooth 424Laces: White Wax
Base: White SmoothSaddle: Blue Smooth 625Laces: White Wax
This week has 3 Major champions in the field, as well as a whole host of young talent. Rory McIlroy will be trying to put the disappointment of last week behind him, and Matteo Manassero returns to action is Europe after a successful trip to the U.S.A. These young stars are avid FJ Sport lovers, and will be appreciating the lightweight nature of the shoes this week as they try to keep energy levels high.
Finally congratulation to FJ ICON wearer, Gregory Bourdy, who won the 75th edition of the PGA France championship last week. Team FJ caught up with Greg this week and he is full of confidence as you can imagine! Combine this with a victory in Asia before, and we could see Greg somewhere near the top of the leaderboard this week!
That is it for this week’s diary entry, look out for the next edition which will be from Chengdu, China.
