FootJoy ambassador Jeppe Huldahl continued the recent phenomena of outsiders winning European Tour events at the Wales Open. The Danish player, who is ranked 377th in the world, moved to the European Tour this year after three years on the satellite Challenge Tour. His previous form never suggested that a win was on the cards after missing the cut in his previous three events. The 26-year-old from Copenhagen played admirably in the final 36 holes, where only one blemish was recorded on his card. Father-to-be Huldahl, started his final round as joint leader, and held on with remarkable poise, carding four birdies and, more significantly, no bogeys to claim the first place prize of £300,000.

Huldahl relied heavily on the performance of his FootJoy Classics and StaSof glove to overcome some torrid weather, where in 36 hours, nearly 6% of the annual rainfall hit the 2010 Ryder Cup venue.
