1-2-3 for FootJoy
Kaymer wins in Abu Dhabi
Martin Kaymer, the European Tour rookie of the year for 2007, held his nerve to win his maiden European Tour title at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship. The 23-year-old started the day six shots clear on 17-under, and the biggest threat came from fellow FootJoy ambassadors, Lee Westwood and Henrik Stenson. By the turn his lead was halved as a result of consecutive bogeys at the fourth, fifth and six. The German steadied himself on the back nine, carding a final round two-over-par 74, which saw him clear of the field by four shots.
Just as Westwood and Stenson, Kaymer laced up a pair of Classics Dry Premiere to stride to his maiden tour victory, taking him to 35th place in the world rankings. In all, 7 of the top ten finishers put their trust in FootJoy golf shoes. Due to a mishap at the beginning of the week, Kaymer was without his usual pair of FootJoy shoes but the Tour team managed to furnished him with a pair of white Classics which carried him across the finish line in style.
