Okay, so Eric asked about the sleeves on the new Spring polos from FJ so I said I'd post a comparison.

I have a couple Peter Millar (Cameron), several Polo Golf and one Nike.  I have taken the few Under Amour and other Nike to Goodwill to donate them.

Here is a comparison of how FootJoy stacks up.

FootJoy
Brand Size Sleeve Length Sleeve diameter
Nike 1 size smaller in FJ 1/2" longer about 1" bigger
Peter Millar 1 size smaller in FJ 1/2" longer about 1" bigger
Polo Golf 1 size smaller in FJ 1/2" longer about 1" bigger

so i wear XL normally but L in FootJoy.  The sleeves feel a tad longer and that might be because of the diameter of the sleeve is about 1" or so bigger on FootJoy.  I'm guessing to improve the swing motion and ensure it's not binding on the course.

I'm very happy with the quality of the fabric on the FJ shirts compared to the other brands

Nike (Pink)

FootJoy (Newport Collection)

On the  TGW.com site they have all the measurements for the shirts they carry. It's very accurate, as I have used it many times to buy shirts and they always fit as I expect. Sadly, they don't have the new FJ shirts, but they do have the Lisle shirts listed. I looked at TGW's listing of the Performance Sweater to see what size to order from golflocker.com. What I got was the size I wanted.

Thanks for the comparison Justin.  I haven't tried any of the new FJ stuff, but I found that the prior generation shirts (I have one ProDry Lisle stripe shirt) do fit slightly bigger on me.  I wear a size medium, and if the new apparel is the same size as the previous apparel, personally I don't think I could go a full size down.  Very interesting comparison though.

Great post.  Peter Milar was my favorite until I put FJ on.  I'm not a huge Under Armor fan, and my Nike shirts just fall apart.  I like the Polo golf shirts, but nothing compares to FJ!

I wear the same size in PM as I do in FJ, but I think the PMs are a touch bigger.

Agreed.  My nike ones fall apart and I was thoroughly displeased with UA's attempts at shirts.

I'm surprised you wear the same size in PM and FJ actually.  The PM's I have (the two Scotty ones, US Open and Avocado color one) run the same as Polo but both I wash and dry which causes them to shrink up I think.

Great work Justin!   The FJ Prodry and lisles that I have are vey durable and hold their color after multiple washes as well.

So you are saying that FJ shirts are bigger? Do they have more of a loose fit than most polos, rather than a sport/slim fit?

Great information, by the way. This is really going to help because I would have gotten a large when I need to get a medium!

Thanks for sharing, this is an important point to me because I make some aquisitions online.

So FJ has some shirts that are "athletic fit".  (http://www.golflocker.com/golf-apparel/footjoy-stretch-pique-stripe-golf-shirts-athletic-fit?deptid=17) for example.

If I bought those I would buy my normal XL size but I don't think it'd be like a "fitted" style like some companies make (ie Zach Johnson's fitted Iliac shirts).

For the normal fit ones I order Large instead of my normal XL because I don't like the shirt to be too loose/baggy and this method works for me on FootJoy only.

So Kab, if you wear a Med normally.  Order a Small from FootJoy unless it's an athletic fit version.  That is just my advice though.

Cheers

Ok, cool, thanks for the clarification. I didn't know the athletic fit sirts were out already.

I haven't tried the other manufacturers you mentioned, justinu3, but the FJ performance lisle shirt I bought last year was too big in my normal size--large--so I exchanged it for a medium, which fits perfectly.  When I enter the apparel contests on the FJ web site, I always list large, knowing I can exchange for a medium, if necessary.

Look at Justin doing the whole comparison shopping thingy for us. Well done bud.

One thing I'd like to point out, which is key I'm sure as you consider buying items. The FJ apparel is consistant across products, so if you wear a Large in a shirt then get a Large in sweaters and other garments. This is absolutely NOT the case with other brands. And I can assure you not across even shirt to shirt.

FJ has taken great time and attention to make sure the templates match so you can order with confidence. Since last year I have moved to Large items from FJ and each and every one has been true and spot on.

Good reporting Justin. Thanks
