Did John Daly quit playing on tour? If so I would like to know why?

With a current World Ranking of 543 he has no status on the PGA Tour. His entries a via monday qualifiers and sponsor's exemptions. I think that he has some status on the Nationwide Tour for 2012.

He will play the Qatar Masters next weekend.

Shame he has fallen so far he does have a lot of skill, just doesn't know when to act right.

He'll have to get in with exemptions and/or Monday qualifiers.  Such a waste of talent...

I haven't heard anything about him either, besides in the video for that young long gun.

Anyway, saw some of the other posts, hopefully he does well and starts playing actively again.

I used to be a fan back in the day, but have grown tired of the whole circus around JD. Between the meltdowns, clown pants, and other antics, it's just more than I can bear really.

He now holds more clown status than PGA status in my book.

It is sad because he has the talent,  but he has also wasted that talent over the years. He refuses to go to Q school, so he is pretty much stuck with a qualifier round or sponsor exemptions.

If he is so headstrong on not going through Q school he should play the Nationwide Tour or the Euro Tour (if he could gain enough status) for a year. I am sure it would help them draw a larger crowds and possibly he could play his way back onto the PGA Tour.

I still like John and hope the best for him.

Ah who cares really? His childish acts a few months back walking off the course show to everyone what chances he does deserve he needs to earn. Like Shooter McGavin said, "This is golf, people!"

Unless he starts filming Hooters commercials I don't think I'll pay much attention to Ole' Long John Daly.

Yep...and it really is such a shame too.  The guy is loaded with talent, but you also have to have the drive and work ethic especially with all the parity on tour today.

We will see if he can continue the good play Saturday.

DOHA, Qatar — European Tour officials reduced the Qatar Masters to 54 holes when they called off play Friday after strong winds moved golf balls and blowing sand reduced visibility on several holes.

Officials initially suspended play at 9:13 a.m. local time after gusts of up to 35 mph. Safety became an issue, with signs getting blown around.

Officials were hoping to resume play, but with no sign of a respite, they called off the round. Play will restart at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday.

First-round leader Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano dropped two shots on his first five holes to fall to 4 under through seven.

John Daly, who had yet to start his second round, was the clubhouse leader after his 5-under 67 on Thursday. A stroke behind were Fernandez-Castano, Jason Day (par through 6 holes) and K.J. Choi, who had yet to start.

He just got old, but I still love him!

I can't say I have heard anything new about JD since last season, which was short lived it seems.  I think it would be nice to see him back in the saddle again, but as pointed out, it has to be his decision to do so.
