Here's a 2012 challenge for the community. I was listening to Aerosmith in the gym, as you do, on one of those very boring cross trainer things and I began thinking. Aerosmith were extolling the virtues of the clarity of the sunrise in Sedona, which at the time I wasn't sure exactly where it was. They were singing about the heat of love, so I expected it was somewhere hot and now know it's in Arizona and therefore I suspect heading towards a desert type environment. I was wondering what the golf courses were like in Arizona and whether playing golf at sunrise in Sedona would be a cool thing to do, in both senses of the word. Apparently the Oakcreek Country Club offers the original championship course in Sedona. My suggested challenge for 2012 is to choose a song, pick a course and play it and then report it on this thread. At the end of the year we will then have an album, again in both senses of the word. Who is up for the challenge?

That's a great idea!  Tomorrow I'm playing Lake Arlington, which is located here in Texas.  My song is God Bless Texas.

As I love exotic destinations and usually bring from my trips a CD of the local music, I play my Mariachi's CD and can imagine myself gaming in the Riviera Maya golf course ending with a shot of tequilla on the 19th hole.

Fairway, your mind was burning from all the exercise, no? In my workouts I prefer AC/DC and Def Leppard, and to my knowledge, they have mentioned no golfing locales in their songs. Arizona is a wonderful choice for golf, especially in the winter, when snow covers the ground in places like my current home of Michigan. If you haven't experienced it yet, desert golf is really wonderful, with a variety of beautiful vistas including cactus, desert sand, and green fairways. Lush and baren at the same time! I will pay more attention to the songs and comply.... For now, the song will be "Carolina on my Mind," by James Taylor. It is the song that has many hopes and dreams in it. My hope will be that this year I can play ANY course in the state of North Carolina.

Fantastic Dallin, I'm looking forward to a report on the course played an perhaps a picture of you or a friend in action on the course.

TH, It's really good to know you are an AC/DC and Def Leppard fan. Two quality bands. May I draw your attention to one of AC/DC's well known hits Whole Lotta Rosie. I'm sure if you quizzed Brian Johnson he would testify that the song was in part a tribute to Rosie the riveter and the efforts of all American Women's labour during WWII. There is a Rosie the Riveter Memorial park in Richmond California. The Richmond Country Club boasts 6751 yards of pleasure. Is it close to you TH? Could you be persuaded to play it for the glory of this thread?

Sounds fun, but I have some questions. Do we just choose one song and one course, or one song for every course that we play this year?

"The Kids are Alright" - The Who. After I rip shots in the woods and backyards. Does this count for every course/round?

Truthfully, a very interesting topic and sounds fun!

Sounds like a great idea to me FF!  The most recent song I listened to is Tim McGraw's "Everywhere" on my way in to work...several states mentioned in that song...reckon I may have to make a roadtrip or two this year.

In an ideal world Kab, a song for each course would be great, but I don't want to be very restrictive, let's have fun with this, so if you have one song that covers every course you play this year, I don't mind. Importantly we need to see pictures of the course , with you on it and the song you have chosen as the excuse to play the course. Hope this helps, Enjoy.

Use that one for whichever courses you feel relevant. Some other songs may inspire you to play other courses. You may also wish to play the Pete Townsend shot that requires vigorous rotation of the right arm like a windmill before playing the shot.

Cool article: The blue mud sounds like quite an experience. Were smurfs born here?
