Interesting article on page 73 of the Feb Golf Digest - highlighting on-course and off-course income. Here are the highlights of the top 10:
1. Tiger Woods: on-course $2 million - off-course $62 million
2. Phil Michelson: on course $3.9 Million - off-course $38 million
3. Arnold Palmer: on-course $0 - off-course $36 million
4. Jack Nicklaus: on-course $155K - off-course $28 million
5. Greg Norman: on-course $75K - off-course $22 million
6. Luke Donald: on-course $13 million - off-course $8.5 million
7. Ernie Els: on-course $1.4 million - off-course $17 million
8. Gary Player: on-course $14K - off-course $16 million
It's amazing how much some of these guys make off the course. Just think how much Tiger would have made if he didn't lose all those endorsements....
I was just going to say that! It's funny how everyone besides Luke made more money off of the course. I wonder if this correlates to other sports as well.
That is pretty interesting. What's also interesting to me is that Luke Donald made more on the course than off it. I'd kind of expect his endorsement deals to increase in sum, especially if he can continue his consistent play and break through and win a major this year.
Kinda brings a tear to your eye, doesn't it.
TW is still doing quite nicely..Amazing stats!
L. Donald has to work hard off-course.
Very nice article.
It does put my salary in a different perspective...LMAO
I am guessing it won't take Luke long before his off-course is above the on-course amount.
I found it interesting that 4 of the top are guys that don't play anymore. Shows you how powerful they still are in this game.
Great post! But what I'd really like to see is how a Jerry Kelly or a Paul Goydos (someone who has a bit of game, but isn't a "superstar") stacks up on this list. Maybe throw in some LPGA ladies also to see how they rank.
Wow statistically speaking I make exponentially more off the course than on than any of these guys.
i don't begrudge anyone making what they can (and keeping it from the tax man), especially golfers, but It seems that sports related income is truly out of hand. A golfer's on course income is one thing, but whew! What the heck, we end up paying for it and until we stop shelling out our cash, this will go on.
Good article...I would be interested to know what % of Palmer, Nicklaus, Norman's off course money is business ventures (course design, wine, clothing, etc...) vs. endorsements.

JUST HAPPEN TO HAVE GD OPEN TO THAT PAGE,,,,,,,,
PALMER--------36,000,000
NICKLAUS------28,800,000
NORMAN-------22,750,000
THESE ARE OFF COURSE NUMBERS,,,,ON COURSE FOR ALL WAS VERY LITTLE.
I saw that as well. Seems like golf is only a part time job for these guys.
It's nice to know that I made just as much on the course as Arnie...he just barely beat me off the course...wait til next year. LOL!
