They have to stop showing Jim Furyk lining up his puts on TV. Look . Step away . Look Step away. I know that there is a lot of money on the line for these guys but It is driving me crazy. Plus I think that it gives a lot of idiots the idea that they should be doing these things on their weekend rounds. I just have to change the channel.
I dont care as much about it on TV. But you make a great point about regular player on the weekend., that is just what we need, longer rounds of golf!!!!
+1 on this one, while I am very happy Furyk won I do not like watching him play. He is very sloooooooooow. Good guy though so glad to see him back in the winners circle.
I feel the same way about Camilo Villegas crouches to measure his putts. Not that it is uneccessalily time consuming but, if any of us tried to copy it, we would need medical attention.
As someone has already mentioned. The soles of his shoes would serve as great FJ advertising if it could be worked out.
JB Holmes does something similar that is really annoying to watch. He takes about six stutter steps as he approaches the ball from behind when taking his stance to play his shot, just step in and hit it already!
You aren't the only one that is crazy over this move. Golf is becoming way too slow (pace of play) and seeing Jim back off multiple times is agonizing. As bad as when Sergio regripped about 40 times before he hit the dang ball.
I know he was nervous and all, and hadn't won for a while, but I agree it was crazy.
Yeah it really gets on my nerves watching Ben Crane, JB, Sergio and several others that take forever to hit the ball. I think tour should have a time limit and start penalize them a stroke each time they wait until Christmas to hit the ball. There is no reason it should take someone that long to hit the ball.
I guess I never take long to read or line up a putt. I guess that is reason that I putt so bad. But the ones that survey it from 17 different points get on my nerves. Walk by it once.... walk back .... talk with your caddy and putt the ball. If it goes in... congrats if not putt it again and let's move on.
Fowler and Sabbatini have it down pat!!!
I couldn't agree more about Furyk -- both in terms of Yay for the win and Boo for the slow play. I know that it is his routine -- he has done this as long as I can remember -- but come on!
Brandt Snedeker and Rickie Fowler are the poster boys for playing on pace. They make a decision, step up and hit!
Doesn't seem to bother me any. I must be the minority here! Congrats to Jim on an excellent and well deserved win.
I guess I am fine with the pro's taking their, after all it is their job and their pay is at stake. I just hate to see this creep into the general playing public. If you aren't playing for your living, there really is no need to look at a putt from 8 different angles when you are just playing for fun.
Eric
I agree and am thrilled to see Jim win, because he is a great guy. But you would absolutely be bothered if you were playing behind him and having to watch that all day. I think that's the point. When you step up to the ball you need to have the decision made in your mind and be committed. Going up to the ball and then backing off twicve as your "routine" doesn't make sense to me. What's in your head when you get to the ball? What changes from view one to the 3rd time you get set?
I'm not sure about you, and I'm also not implying my routine is perfect, but when I assess and make up my mind, I step up and pull the trigger. Seems I would just confuse myself going back and forth. IMO...
AS THE EARTH ROTATES, THE ANGLE OF THE SUN CHANGES, THUS CAUSING THE GRAIN OF THE GRASS ON THE GREEN TO SLIGHTLY CHANGE DIRECTION................THE GRASS ALWAYS GROWS TOWARD THE SUN............
THEREFORE, FROM THE TIME HE HAS FIGURED OUT THE BREAK OF THE PUTT AND FACTORED THE EFFECT OF THE GRASS GRAIN, IT HAS CHANGED BECAUSE OF THE EARTH'S ROTATION.
THE ONLY LOGICAL THING TO DO IS GO THROUGH THE PROCESS AGAIN UNTIL A SUNSPOT FLARE STAGNATES THE GRAIN DIRECTION CHANGE FOR A LONG ENOUGH TIME TO ACTUALLY STROKE THE PUTT............THAT USUALLY HAPPENS ON THE 3RD TRY.
I AM SURPRISED THAT JF IS THE ONLY PLAYER TO FIGURE THIS OUT.
HOLMES IS OBVIOUSLY TRYING OUT FOR DANCING WITH THE STARS
SERGIO HAS A PROBLEM GETTING A GRIP ON ANYTHING
Excellent run down Bruce.... I will have to run to the library this afternoon so check out the astrophysics books to help my putting out.
I think that Sergio got better because everyone was making fun of him.
I wonder what the announcers really think. They must get short on things to talk about. Hence the long discussion of why JF's putter grip is upside down. However if I see a playing partner with that grip on the muni I am going to run in the other direction.
I generally try to stay relaxed and not let little things like reading your putt 5 times bother me, especially during tournament play. I am a quick, decisive player but if someone wants to take their time and read their putt a couple times and what not like Jim does, it doesn't bother me. Whatever provides you with the most success and gives you the ability to compete at your best is cool by me.
I like your comment. Record the putt thne show it to us after letting us watch the R Fowler pace of play.
