If you aren't having fun on the course then go home .....

Too often I see guys out on the course acting a fool every time they hit a bad shot and, sometimes that is every shot. Cussin' , throwin' clubs and actin' like a big baby. I too have a bad round and If I'm not feelin it I just head back in and work on my swing at the range. I think those who act a fool should get off the course .... What do you think ???

I cuss.... so I don't throw clubs.  I don't get to play and practice enough to let bad shots really bother me.  Usually I'm just happy to be playing golf but 4 letter words usually do follow!  LOL

I don't get the ones that throw clubs, try to break them beating them into the ground, or hitting their bag.  I've heard too many stories of people hitting their bag and breaking a shaft or throwing a club and lands wrong and snaps.   I've paid way too much money to do childish things like that.

I think the quote is attributed to Mark Twain -  "Golf - A good walk spoiled".  When I see one of those you are describing I just think - "I could be at work".

Personally, if I hit a bad shot, I will explode, but its for a very brief second, and then Im done. Thats how I release my tension so it doesnt build up over the course of the round. A second after my outburst, I am completely calm.

AGREED.  I USED TO THROW A CLUB OR TWO BUT HAVEN'T DONE THAT SINCE I GREW UP IN 1990 AT THE AGE OF 40.  I DID HOWEVER ALWAYS THROW THE CLUB IN THE DIRECTION I SHOULD BE GOING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AROUND THAT TIME I REALIZED THAT EVEN THOUGH I WAS A SCRATCH GOLFER, I COULD EXPECT A FEW BAD SHOTS IN A ROUND.  ONCE I REALIZED I WASN'T JACK OR ARNIE, I GOT MY HEAD ON STRAIGHT.

NOW AT MY AGE AND PHYSICAL CONDITION, I WOULD PROBABLY HURT MYSELF IF I THREW A CLUB, WOULDNT BE ABLE TO FIND IT AFTER I THREW IT, OR FORGOT WHERE OR IF I THREW IT IN THE FIRST PLACE.

I've let a few choice words go when I hit a really bad shot.  After it's done I just think about the bumper stickers.  You know "A bad day of Golf beats a good day at Work", then I move on.  Besides If it's that bad I just pick up my ball and move on to the next hole, clean the slate so to speak.

After playing with my kids(13 & 18) and coaching them over the years, I have learned the lesson that we have to keep it under control on the course. They will do as they see and not always as they are told. My son has added to his club collection though due to outrageous behavior. So far he has found a couple of drivers, an iron and putter in the woods adjacent to our local muny. Most in good shape. Keep that in mind next time you have the notion to throw that $400 driver.

Thanks to all who haven't kept in control and contributed to his collection. LOL

I cuss under my breath but I dont yell and scream when I hit bad shots.  I try to finish my round even if its going badly.  Than after I'll go work on what I need too or wait for the next day.  I always try to keep a positive attitude and not let bad shots get to me anyway.

I will cuss at myself and internalize it for the most part, haven't thrown a club in anger since I was a junior.

I don't like to see any type of anger displays on the course, it's just not necessary.

JB...

I will say that I have mellowed like a fine whine on this topic. Used to expect perfection, which doesn't come. Used to throw a club now and again, only to look the fool. Used to cuss out loud, only to feel sheepish afterwards.

I still talk to myself in my head, but have really tried to enjoy "the good walk spoiled", as Hokie quotes. You know what? I'm as good as I'm ever going to be. I'm outdoors smelling the grass and seeing the sun. What's not LOVE about that?

i'm so competitive, that i get upset over a bad shot. but i try not to let it show. i'll slam the club on the ground or something like that, but i never throw a club. i like to see other people do it so i can laugh at them. my dad used to do that all the time and it was quite entertaining. but its always nice to be playing golf instead of being anywhere else. thats' what i just keep telling myself.

My feelings on this topic is, Golf is a game that people try to perfect and thats just not going to happen.  The only way i can see someone getting that mad on a golf course is someone that does it for a living.  The pressure of feeding you family and paying bills would be the only time i can understand someone getting that mad that you throw stuff and act a fool.   If you dont practice or u dont play atleast 3 days a week. How can you get mad?  Just like anything else in life, you have to practice to be good at anything.

This is exactly what I do as well. I will get frustrated at times, and I may blow up for a few minutes, but the idea is that  hopefully it will get it out and you can put it behind you to think about the next shot. I know we all wish to never make a mistake on the course...but that's not realistic. If you aren't enjoying yourself out there, and you are disrespectful to your playing partners, then you shouldn't be on the course at all.

i think it is just hilarious when u get those guys who are dressed to the nine and have all the top of the line equipment and just loose their minds when they hit a shot 20 yards which is usually the farthest they are going to hit it all day

i agree with stephen, the only problem is with me is that i'm so competitive that i expect to be the best. even though i may only play once a week. i know that pretty naive, but i just like to try to be the best. but i agree, its hard to be mad when you don't have the time to put into it. i know that i kinda contradicted myself, but its a fine line. oh well, i know that didn't help, but i tried. haha
