How many of you do this? I did it a couple of weeks ago on the range while warming up for a tournament. I made a playlist of mellow music (for me), mainly Dave Matthews Band. It seemed to put my mind in a good place.
Might be a god idea, but like cell phones, they certainly don't belong on the course. Also, it may be disturbing to other golfers warming up if they are close and can actually hear yours. This just happened to me at a local driving range and it was a distraction.

I've had the same thing, where someone has the music up so loud, I can hear it. I don't like to use one, because I like to hear my shots in addition to the feel. Just a personal preference though.
it's not for, but my son used it while golfing for a bit then stopped. as to the cell phone, i've got to keep it in my pocket on MANNER MODE, you know, vibrate only so as not to disturb other golfers. it was really nice to have one day when somebody elses cart broke down and he was starting to get upset. i told him why don't we call the club house, they'll bring you out another. they did , he calmed down i went on to play the second hole and he finished the 4th.
if one of your playing partners has an emergency or your wife does at home, it will could be a life saver. cell phones do have a place on the course in my mind, but MANNER MODE only.
I've never tried it, but it might be worth giving a shot. I usually listen to music on the way to the course and alot of times I get songs stuck in my head for the entire round.
I use an iPod every time I practice. I don't pick a specific playlist or anything, I just let it shuffle and pick any song from my library.
This is helpful for me because it keeps me focused on what I am doing and keeps my mind free instead of thinking too much about all the variables in the golf swing.
This is especially helpful during putting practice because I get bored on the putting greens and if I am listening to my music, I can get lost in the moment and putt for a lot longer than I could if I was not listening to music.
I never take the BlackBerry on the course or practice tee. I have tried the iPod, but just kept pulling the cord out during the swing.

Blackberry is always in my bag on the course on silent, but there if I need it, I also have a GPS application that allows me to track all my shots, get distances to the green, etc. that I use sometimes when my SkyCaddie is dead.
With the iPod, what you need to do is drop it down the back of your shirt and put in in your back pocket. that was the earphones are in your ears and the cord is running down your back under your shirt.. you can still tuck in the shirt without a problem and it doesn't look goofy or anything! That's how I keep from catching the cord on my swing.
I always practice with my Ipod. When I play with my buddies I have a set of speakers I use so we can all listen. The music doesn't bother us and we keep it low enough not to bother anyone else. I like the music in the background. It keeps my mind off everything else. I can just get up there and swing. Sometimes certain beats or rhythms can help improve my swing too.

I havent really practiced with my ipod in but when my friends and I play we have the ipod hooked up to speakers and it doesnt bother me one bit and the only players cant hear in because we keep it low enough. It keeps me pretty calm.
Kids do it today, because they need the mental stimulation.
May take is this.... NO WAY!
I want to hear the sound of the ball on the club face.
I use my ipod when I walk the course. I listen to mellow music, between shots and if I hit a bad shot it calms me down for the next shot. Sometimes, one of my playing partners is very talkative and this is a way to tune him out.
don't own one and definitely can't see the value of it on the course. when I'm practicing I want to think about the shot(s) I have to play and the last thing I need is to have a song stuck in my head as I head onto the course to play.
I have never used one,but am not opposed to trying it. Also 19th hole, last year I got this elastic arm band for jogging w/iPod. I'm sure that this would prevent your cord from pulling out.
Tuck the cord in your shirt or pick up a shuffle and clip it to your hat or something. I love my ipod on the course. I feel lost without it when I am playing.
