I think being American we all love the US OPEN.  However, The Masters is my favorite major.  As Jim would say.... A tradition unlike any other.

While each Major has it's own special characteristic and allure, you just have to pick the Masters.

First off, it is the "first" major of each new golf season. Spring is in the air, flowers just emerging, and it is the beginning of all things full of promise and inspiration. Every golfer is looking to a new "breakout" year and trying to do better than the year before. Anticipation is everywhere.

Then we can't loose site of the fact that Augusta National is THE venue for the event. It's then only Major that returns to the same location each and every year to test the competitors just as in past generations. While storied courses like Pebble Beach, Saint Andrews, and Bethpage have hosted PGS's, Open Championships, and US Opens, there is only one tournament that is played exclusively on the same track each year.... The Masters. That consistency and anticipation just makes the event so very special.

For me the PGA Championship and the Masters. Both are tremendous venues and I can't really decide which one is better than the other. Great golf and great golfers are seen at both tourneys. And I can't seem to get enough of either.

I like them all, but the one that I go to is the British Open. Crowds are smaller and the course setup can really make for some interesting shots. You can also get pretty close to the players....

THE OPEN. No question.

You can't seriously say The Masters and mention tradition knowing The Open is the oldest major, played on historic links courses (some would say 'proper' ;) ) year in year out, whereas The Masters is played on the same manicured piece of land, and didn't start until a full 70 odd years after The Open!

In all fairness I love all the majors for very different reasons, but the one I regard as the pinnacle (not because I'm British, but because I appreciate the history) is without a shadow of doubt The Open.

My favorite is The Open Championship.  Its played on the toughest courses in the nastiest weather conditions and IMO there is more prestige in winning the Claret Jug than in winning any of the other majors.

Fieldsy,

First, Welcome to the Community!

Second, Thanks for not having me be the only Open supporter.

They're all great, but if I have to pick one it's the Masters.

Up north here in New England, we're barely starting the season, so it brings us out of hibernation in a sense.

Seeing it in person is also on my "bucket list".

The Open hands down! The begining of golf and the tradition behind it .

St Andrews is a course I will play before I am dead and gone.

Don't get me wrong Augusta National is beautiful. I have walked it a few times spectating and I watch the Masters when I am not walking the course a day or two.

But I also know my odds in ever getting to play Augusta National are low.  I would have a lot better odds in being struck by lightning or rammed through a jet engine than ever getting to play that couse.....lol

The majority of all the other Majors can be played by anyone if you are will to pay the prices.

They're all great to watch but I think that the Open Championship is by far the best one.
What can be more satisfying than walking down the 18th hole at the Old Course?
