original covers on the woods and putter.   my iron wear a rubber cover all the time as it keeps the faces from being dinged up any more than from natural wear from use as intended.  it is also quieter.

Good point Hendricks on the moisture trapping with neoprene iron covers. It's why I changed to the Callaway product, because they are made of a nylon cloth material, which is great for travel and don't trap all that moisture, if there is any.

i like to keep the original ones on my drivers and fairway woods. my scotty cover i change from time to time, but i have an old worn out one that i use so i don't ruin it. i had my great kentucky wildcat until my dog got ahold of it.

I have "Old Smokey" on my driver.... Go Vols!

Fairway woods have original covers which match my bag.

Hybrids have original covers which also match my bag

Putters two of the three match the bag colors and the third putter has black cover.

Irons... yep, I do use covers on my irons. I have neoprene covers that have a clear sight window to see what iron is being grabbed. I am very particular about my gear, you may see slight scratches on the bottom sole plates or some wear on the face from hitting golf balls, but not across the entire clubs. I still have several sets of irons currently put up that look virtually look new 10 yrs later. If you placed the soles on the ground you won't see any chatter marks..

As much as we have to pay for our gear,  it always helps to protect them.

Question... What is causing the moisture issue that is being referred too? Rain? Dew? cleaning of the clubs?

Generally, I always use a towl to dry my clubs after a round or even after cleaning. I haven't had any issues with moisture forming on my irons before or after the round when I store my clubs. If the covers were damp, I would not leave them on the clubs.

My curiosity is up on this question.

Tim

If there is any moisture inside, especially a neoprene cover, it will start to get rusty-moldy from the wetness. Even on a golf club.

OK folks.... all this talk about headcovers and I just went and bought some Jan Craig covers for my 3 and 5 woods. Got Black with Carolina Blue stripes and Black/White/Silver poms. Dang it! Thanks a bunch Nathan!

I'm like Brian.  I have my manufactuers covers on my clubs, but I do switch out Cameron covers from time to time.

OK...big surprise here:

I have been looking at www.rockettour.com for some knit covers. They have some black with light blue stripes that looked quite nice (seriously, you're surprised at this?) and would match all my stuff.

Check out the fantasticknits.com site.  Jane can make what ever you need - very reasonable price.  You can vary the width of strips -  works well with Orange, Maroon, and White.

No problem bud, you'll love them. Jan Craig is the choice of the Haas Boys and Tar Heel. Classy guys, classy looking headcovers.

Randy,

Thanks for the reply on the neoprene . I understand what you are talking about now. I have had times where they would get damp and I would lay them out to dry before replacing them on my irons. The set that I have currently are pretty good, if this happens now it would be a complete down pour.

Hokies,

Thanks for posting on the knit covers. I have been trying to find some that I actually like that match the color combinations that I want (Orange and White) . I believe that I will buy some from fantasticknits....TY!

Original headcovers all the way.  No iron covers--too much extra trouble.  I clean my irons after each shot anyway.

I looked at fantastic. The stuff looked great but Jan Craig is a Chicago company in a neighborhood my Dad grew up in. How the heck can I pass that up?

So I got some "socks" for my 3 and 5 woods. Sadly it takes 7 weeks to custom make them, so it seems like a 2011 unveiling. But I will put a snap up here when I get them....

Lets hope us midwesterner's are still playing in 7 weeks! Hoping for a Nov like LY where i was able to get out and play a bunch before the snow fell for good. Sad to think the year for golf in our neck of the woods is coming to an end.

I rock out the John Daly lion headcover on my driver and stock on the rest of my clubs, the three red dots scotty cover.

"By the way, who among us uses those iron covers? I've only had the Titleist bag for this season -- my big bag has 14 dividers, so it kept clubs from clanking. Thoughts?"

I use the Callaway Golf iron covers (match my bag). But I put them on only when my bag is in the trunk, removing them when I get to the course. They really do keep your clubs from getting dinged up, especially since mine are in the car all the time.

My covers are all stock issue except for a club glove generic cover on my Red X. Had another Red X lifted at a golf outing a couple years back so I don't advertise that I play a Scotty putter, just let my putting do the talking for me.

I also have the iron covers for the car ride but not the course. my stand bag has 14 dividers plus a putter slot on the outside so I have plenty of room with no jingle when I walk.

Mr. Mizuno and I collect old school Illac head covers at the courses we play. ( we now have too many shirts) Great color knits and they make nice butter soft all leather ones with the club logos embossed on them. Illiac makes supper stuff. you should check out their web site. It is fun to mix and match them. But we are always fighting over the Tobacco Road 3 wood cover with the red and yellow stripes.  However I must admit that the big pompoms are a little heavy when you carry in the rain.
