Sorry to see him go, best of luck to him.
What's bad about this is now there will be legal wrangling and Camillo will get sucked in for some screw up by his agent and business people.
And unfortunately for FJ, the catalog, which just dropped for a year, will feature Camillo on multiple pages wearing FJ shoes and gloves and such.
See, I should have been in the catalog! You won't see me switching brands.... And I pay for my stuff!
I agree with Tar Heel. The most unfortunate (and probably the legal issues) center around the use of his image in any brand or sales materials. Coming out with the news of his switch, prior to his contract being up with Acushnet, disrupts any marketing campaigns, etc. that Villegas was a part of for Acushnet. Image rights are contractually negotiated for a period time. If I were Acushnet, I would be suing for damages too.
As far as switching brands goes, I look at the numbers for the top level amateurs that aren't being paid for endorsement deals. At any high level amateur tournament, Titleist and FJ are the top brands by far in the equipment counts. That's where the true measurement of the brand lies - not in the paid endorsement deals for the pros.
All that said by my fellow Ambassadors is probably going to leave CV in somewhat of a legal mess. The sad side is that he is leaving. What prompted him to leave is, in my humble estimation, money and more of it. While more money is nice, Brand loyalty is something that I, and others in this community, admire. Why go over to Adidas when he could have gone to Titleist and gotten clubs from them. I think that the Titleist brand clubs are far superior to TM in the iron department and may also be better with all the others, although I can't make that true comparison as I have never had the opportunity to put that to the test. Hopefully, in the near future I can, but until then I reserve judgement. We shall see if this is the right move, but I seriously doubt it.

You are one of the few that I have talked to that have had better success with the Penta ball. I tried a sleeve of them and just couldn't get them to perform as good as the ProV1x for me. I lost yardage and feel.
good player but, its all about the money...too bad a lawsuit has enteted the picture b/c golf needs things to remain as positive as it can with the stretch run to the FedEx Cup b/c college/NFL football is already taking over..
he wil miss those FJ Icons
I had no idea about getting sued...that is a shame. As for him being in the FJ catalog can't they replace him with someone else? I vote for a contest in the FJ community, send in your pics wearing your footjoy gear and best ones get to go in the catalog? Chris I hope you read this!
We have actually explored the idea of having consumers appear in our catalog, possibly something we can consider in the next few years? Unfortunately since the books are already printed for this year it's not possible to make a rolling change.
In the meantime, we do hold open casting calls for the catalog, usually in Florida in February/March. Tar Heel stopped by one last year and can shed some light on the process. We always post the dates and locations here so will let you know when it's time to come out and audition!
You should have one here in NEB in March. I will come in the layered outfit I am going to win from this weeks PGA Championship contest and let you put me in the catalog.
I'm just sayin.... =)

You would need the layered outfit in Neb in March! : )
almost as cold as Wisconsin.
I still play the TP Red ball and love it. The Penta is a nice ball but feels a bit softer to me. If you are a Pro V1 player, (not the X) then the Penta would likely suit you. TM needs to make a red and black Penta like they did with the TP. Just my opinion. The TP Red is longer for me and is more stable in the wind than the Pro V1 or X. Maybe it's relative to clubhead speed, I don't know. I'm not the longest player around, so I like a softer feeling ball.

Thanks for the heads up Chris! I can use a trip to Florida in Feb/March with the weather I am faced with in Ohio. Might have to fit a trip this coming year!
