Did anyone notice the complete lack of any gallery at the Puerto Rico Open? Turned it on for a little while after watching Ernie. There was no one there. Anyone have any insight on this. I know that there were big weather delays but that was silly
My sister-in-law lives out there. From what she says there aren't that many people who play.
I noticed that as well, I was watching some pretty big names and there were like ten people around the green, it was weird to see, I thought for a minute it was a Nationwide event.
It sounds like the locals aren't that into it apparently.
SEEMS TO ME THAT WITH THAT KIND OF RESPONSE, EVEN TIGER WOULDN'T DRAW A CROWD.
It doesn't surprise me. It was an alternate tournament off the mainland US. I cannot imagine many people traveling to PR to watch the tournament.
I watched a little of it as well. It was nice to see Chi-Chi on the screen again.
Sad to see. Great venue but no one was there to see it.
Its just like a tournament that goes on during the OPEN Championship, who wants to watch it when all of the best players in the world are not playing . NOT ME
PR just isn't a hot spot for golf and it's not the easiest for American's to attend their either. It was a poor spot to choose but a nice looking course.
I HAVE SPENT SOME TIME IN PUERTO RICO.
MY NUMBERS MAY NOT BE UP TO DATE BUT AS AN EXAMPLE A FEW YEARS AGO;
95%+ OF THE PEOPLE LIVE IN 5-6 CITIES
ALMOST HALF OF THE PEOPLE LIVE BELOW THE POVERTY LEVEL
TRANSPORTATION AROUND THE ISLAND IS NOT GOOD AND IT IS EXPENSIVE COMPARED TO INCOME LEVELS.
GOLF IS NOT AN INCLUSIVE RECREATION IN PUERTO RICO WHERE MOST OF THE GOLF IS PLAYED BY TOURISTS.
PUT IT ALL TOGETHER AND YOU GET A SITE THAT IS NOT CONDUSIVE TO LARGE CROWDS OVER 3-4 DAYS.
