IT SEEMS AS IF I PLAY BETTER AT DIFFICULT, WELL MANICURED COURSES THAN I DO AT EASY POORLY MAINTAINED COURSES.

WHEN I PLAY ON A DOG TRACK, I PLAY LIKE A DOG.  I JUST CAN'T GET PUMPED UP TO P;AY A POOR COURSE.

ANYBODY ELSE HAVE THAT PROBLEM?

BRUCE, I DO EXACTLY THE SAME THING.

WHENEVER I GET A CHANCE TO PLAY GREAT COURSES ANYWHERE I PLAY MY BEST.

MY WIFE SEEMS TO THINK IT'S MY COMPETITIVE NATURE THAT MAKES ME WANT TO "SHOW OFF".

I WAS A 10 HDCP. WHEN WE WENT TO THE BRITISH ISLES. I PLAYED BALLYBUNNION(OLD),TURNBERRY-AILSA , CARNOUSTIE , AND ST.ANDREWS AND THE HIGHEST SCORE I SHOT WAS AN 83.

I COME HOME TO MY COURSE AND THE FIRST ROUND I SHOOT 88. ?????????

EXACTLY WHAT I MEAN.  I HATE PLAYING COURSES THAT ARE NOT WELL MAINTAINED.  AS LONG AS THE COURSE IS WELL MAINTAINED, I AT LEAST WANT TO PLAY WELL AND TRY TO DO SO.

Nicer courses tend to bring out a better game in me. THink a lot has to do with better greens and the atmosphere of a better course.

Yeah its all mindset when I come up to the first tee or the putting green.  It seems like just a few negative remarks and its downhill from there.

It seems to be very contagious both ways though.  Usually we all play good or all play like crap.  Usually I'm the one that has more of the bad days but I don't get to play as often as the ones I usually play with.   But I try not to bring anyone down with me.  Irons or driver will or will not  work that day and you have to do the best you can with it.

I have one friend that will pay the $60+ and we don't have a problem with playing dogtracks.    Then I have the cheap friend that doesn't want to pay more than $30 and always complaining about the condition of where we are playing.   I really don't get that.   I mean he did caddy at Augusta  wouldn't you want to play a nice course too if you saw that everyday ?  LOL

When we played the Ocean course I had the best round driving the ball and hitting my irons.  My friend that is usually money had one of the worst rounds I have ever seen him play.  I actually felt sorry for him that day...  he lost all his golfballs and had to borrow some.  That had never happened before.  I guess this was the one time he  was  thinking about the $285 we spend on  the round.

Sounds like I play like everyone else. When I am paying to play a premier course, my game better match. Nothing worse than shooting 95 on a wonderfully manicured course than turning around and shooting 75 on a Muny. I think the overall attitude when playing the better courses is the fact that I may not get back to the course again, I want to make it memorable....in a good way. I also like to match shots that I have hit with ones that I have seen the Champion's tour or Nationwide tour players hit on the same course.

Muni's can be very nice if you find the right one...

I think you will always play better at a well manicured course than at a poorly manicured one because the well manicured one is more true and fair to the player, even if the greens are at a 10+.

I haven't played a bad course for a long time but I wouldn't want to waste my time finding one either!

I haven't played to many places, but I try to play hole by hole.

I guess as I make my way out this season I can let you all know if I can totally agree.

While it is nice to lay those well-manicured courses, of which there are many, I play all of them one hole at a time and try my very best not to let the condition of the course influence my playing. I look at each course as having its own individual challenges and let it go at that.

I think a lot to do with it is the happiness factor. How can you not but just smile on the first tee of a great course. Plus I think that I pay more attention to each hole and every angle that I find myself because I am so happy to be there. Can't wait for Royal Dornoch this summer!
