With all of the opinion questions being posted lately, Im seeing a trend of those who are against whatever saying its not traditional as their reasons. However, I find it hard to believe that Im the only one not wearing steel spikes, carrying my hickory shafted persimmon niblicks and bashers hitting my feathery or even balata balls wearing a wool suit and knickers. At what point, does the new technology or fashion become "traditional" enough for the traditionally minded?

SORRY, I'M NOT REALLY SURE I UNDERSTAND THE QUESTION.

OPINIONS ARE OPINIONS, NOTHING MORE NOTHING LESS.

If I am understanding correctly, you are saying that when is everyone going to except the changes that are blowing in the wind.

If you take a look at the game there has been no changes to the basics of the game.  Every once and awhile you get a player that adds a little flare if you will.  Whether it's a flashy belt buckle, or even pastel colored pants. However, it's still pants, shirt, and shoes.  Most players want to be taken seriously and dress as such.  Even IJP with his pink and purples is not as loud as say Daly.  I give him the benefit of the doubt because Loudmouth is a sponsor.

If I'm wrong than like Bruce said "CAN YOU REPHRASE THIS QUESTION?"

PABLO..........I RE-READ THIS POST SEVERAL TIMES.  I DON'T THINK HE IS TALKING ABOUT CLOTHES SO MUCH AS EQUIPMENT.  FIRST THERE WAS HICKORY SHAFTED WOODS AND ITONS.  THEN CAME STEE.  THEN CAME GRAPHITE SHAFTS AND AROUND THE SAME TIME CAME STEEL HEADED WOODS.  AFTER THAT CAME THE CAVITY BACK IRONS AND AFTER THAT CAME JUMBO WOODS AND DRIVERS.  BALLS HAVE HAD JUST AS DRASTIC A CHANGE OVER THE YEARS AND TO SAVE TYPING, FROM THE FEATHER BALL TO THE PRO V1.  OTHER ITEMS HAVE EVOLVED BUT NOTHING THAT WOULD HAVE AN EFFECT ON THE GAME ITSELF NEARLY AS MUCH AS THE EQUIPMENT.  I THINK I AM ON THE RIGHT TRACK WITH THIS

I THINK YOU COULD PROBABLY GROUP THESE THINGS INTO CATEGORIES OF, 1. ORIGINAL, 2. TRADITIONAL, AND 3 MODERN ERA

ORIGINAL BEING HICKORY SHAFTED CLUBS AND THE BALLS USED THEN

TRADITIONAL WITH THE ADVENT OF STEEL AND SOME GRAPHITE SHAFTS AND INCLUDING EARLY MODELS OF STEEL HEADED WOODS

MODERN ERA ANYTHING THEREAFTER

IF I AM WRONG ABOUT THIS, PLEASE CORRECT ME ANYBODY.

I THINK OF TRADITIONAL AN ANYTHING UP TO THE LATE 80'S OR EARLY 90'S AFTER THE EARLY 90'S, I CONSIDER THAT MODERN ERA

Probably a difference in accepting a tradition for tradition's sake or doing so out of respect. I think that many of us would consider ourselves "traditionalists" in the sense that we would not do anything to intentionally disrespect the traditions or accepted rules of golf such as bringing Al Czervik's bag to the 16th fairway, tapping the keg and cranking up the tunes. I do, however, feel that we have adapted to the evolution of the game, including equipment, shoes, and the fan fest at the 16th hole at the TPC Scottsdale.

Again, if I have misinterpreted, I will plead for BRUCE...Can you rephrase this question?....

Bruce, you may be spot on with this.

I just wish we knew for sure.

Didnt mean to confuse anyone. I just noticed that on the jeans, the tennis shoes, the colored balls, loudmouth clothes, etc. I see alot of answer of "Im too traditional". At one time, all of the technological innovations would have been considered untraditional. It also works for the clothing and fashion. At one time, a polo shirt would have been deemed untraditional. So I was wondering how long between its actually a matter of taste or being untraditional and when it becomes "traditional". So not really much of a question, just something I was thinking about.
