Greetings all, Second year golfer here & new to reglarly watching golf on TV also
This past week end, at the Honda Classic, a golfer ( not sure of name ) elected to play his ball from where it lied ( in the water). As it turns out he was penalized strokes for hitting the water on the backswing ( I understand all this ) but while covering this shot, the commentator talked about a golfer ( I thought I heard Mark OMeara's name ) who previously was penalized for getting info from his caddy which was found to be illegal.
What sort of info could this be or, with me being new to TV golf, I got it all screwed up.
If anyone saw & heard what I am talking about, please help!!!
Pita, welcome to golf and welcome to the FJ site.
While I heard about the penalty and the ruling, I have not heard about the second ruling you are talking about. Sorry I can't help you.
Welcome again.
Pita.......First of all Welcome to the Community
Now for your question...the ruling that you ask about has to do with the player's caddie asking another player's caddie what club his player used for a particular shot.
The rule broken was Rule 8:
8-1. Advice
During a stipulated round, a player must not:(a) give advice to anyone in the competition playing on the course other than his partner, or(b) ask for advice from anyone other than his partner or either of their caddies.
Marks' caddie asked the fellow competitor's caddie what his player hit on a par 3. This was asking for advice. Even worse, if the caddie answered HIS player would also have been penalized!
Checkou www.usga.org for all lot more info on the rules.
Thanks Tar Heel & 19Hole for the warm welcome
And Thanks 19Hole for explaining the infraction that happened & the rule that applied....I have been asking all over the place about this incident
Welcome Pita.
I guess you found the right place to get your golf questions answered.
Thanks Grumpy for the warm welcome.
It sure does look like the answeres are here....I searched & searched for answers locally but no one I know even remembers that comment I was asking about
