I was just wondering how everyone else feels about this. I have seen it a few times and am guilty of it myself.
You are out on the course and you see people playing in jeans or even sweats, I wouldn't play in sweats.
I've seen the dress code posted and no one enforces it, granted it is a public course.
NEVER HAVE PLAYED IN THEM EXCEPT IN THE LATE LATE FALL OR EARLY WINTER WHEN IT IS COLD AND WHEN NO ONE ELSE WAS ON THE COURSE. AS A GENERAL RULE, JEANS ARE FROWNED UPON. NEVER MIND WHAT OTHERS DO. MAKE YOURSELF LOOK GOOD (NOT FLASHY) BUT GOOD. YOU WILL BE A ++++++ TO THE GAME.
FIRST, IF YOU HAVE A DRESS CODE POSTED IT MUST BE ENFORCED. IF IT ISN'T THEN IT SHOULD NOT BE POSTED.
SECOND-IN THIS DAY AND FINANCIAL SITUATION MANY PUBLIC COURSES HAVE REMOVED THE DRESS CODES IN ORDER TO INCREASE PLAY.
THIRD-ONE OF THE MANY THINGS THAT SOME PEOPLE BELIEVE SLOWS THE GROWTH OF GOLF IS ITS LACK OF INCLUSIVENESS (CATERING TO THOSE WHO HAVE IN LIEU OF ALL INCLUSIVE). DRESS CODES ARE A PART OF THIS SUBJECT
FOURTH- MANY OF THE DRESS CODES ARE OUTDATED. AN EXAMPLE BEING NO DENIM.IN MANY CASES THE DENIM BEING WORN IS OF HIGH STYLE AND QUALITY
I AM OF THE OLD SCHOOL THAT BELIEVES YOU DON'T GO TO CHURCH OR PLAY GOLF IN YOUR WORK CLOTHES( A LITTLE UPPITY I GUESS,BUT,,,)
I BELONG TO A PRIVATE CLUB WHO HAS A DRESS CODE THAT IS MOST TIMES ENFORCED BUT EVEN THERE THE OCCASIONAL DENIM WILL SLIP THROUGH, ESPECIALLY IN THE DINING ROOM.
pablo my friend, as for myself, i'm not a big fan of jeans on the course, or even at the practice areas. i see it all the time at the muni where it is within the code though.
Personallly, I have never worn jeans on the golf course and have no plans to, they just aren't very comfortable to walk around in and don't breath very well. I see guys that wear jeans on the course and if that is what they want to play in and the clubhouse lets them on, who am I to say anything. It doesn't effect my game if "Joey Bag Of Doughnuts" wants to play in jeans, cutoffs or tank-tops. I don't agree with it but to each his own.
you can find a pair of khakis for the same price as a pair of jeans that are just as comfortable. keep the tradition
Boy this is a tough post....
I am not a fan of denim on the course, especially the ones I play. I don't want to sound snooty here, but there are some more "muni" type courses that are looking to just get play, so if they allow jeans, that is their right. I personally will not play a course that doesn't have a strictly enforced dress code.
Been to many moderately priced courses that give a very proper explanation to the players that you must wear shirts with collars and can not wear jeans. Ladies can wear sleevless, but not "halter" type tops.
Man, I sound like a stick in the mud on this. But I try to look good when I play, so the last thing I want is to get paired with some people who dress like they're heading to a bar....
In most cases jeans can actually be priced higher than most of the khaki's Mizuno.
That being said, I am going to make conscious effort to no longer wear jeans no matter where I play. I didn't do it at my friends club so I should give every other course the same consideration.
Besides this season I plan on going to a few different courses that I know I couldn't get away with it anyway.
Dog..... , on your third point. It is not exclusive to the game. I see this everyday in business and sports where the rules don't seem to fully apply to certain individuals.
I would never play in jeans or jean shorts. I agree that if there is a dress code it needs to be enforced.
Jeans on the course........NEVER NEVER NEVER!
It depends on where youre playing, and what kind of jeans we are talking about. Ive seen some jeans that are much nicer than what 90% of others on the course are wearing. Of course, if it states no denim on the dress code, then there is already a clear cut answer.
I tend to favor no jeans; however, there are times of the year that jeans might work - late season play. My course has a "No Jeans" policy but the real fact is - you are not going to be turned away if you have the "Cash to Play".
GO HOKIES
I've never played in jeans. I will wear jeans to the range I go to. However, this range isn't connected to a golf course. It is has a putt putt course and a batting cage and I have no problem with it there. I see alot of people wearing jeans in the winter time on the course but it just doesn't look good to me.
I love jeans and own many pairs, but would not wear them on the golf course. They are just not comfortable enough to be honest with you, and I don't think they look right. In the clubhouse fine, on the course never.
Just my thoughts.
I have never worn jeans on a course and never will although I have seen it on the muni's all of the time. I would much prefer to wear khaki's from a comfort standpoint alone.
Depending on the policy of the course, they may or may not be allowed. If they are not allowed, the course should be consistent in upholding the policy so that no one will feel unjustly punished for not being allowed to play.
