ThinkParT:

I'm currently planning a golf get-away to Hilton Head Island, SC. Looking into the Harbour Town Village packages. Any comments or suggestions for Heritage Club Courses to play are welcomed. Trip is in June

Welcome to the site Sir. You have come to the right place for a question like this....

I've been to HHI many times, and there are many wonderful places to play. Of course Harbour Town is the top of the list, but also very pricey. Be prepared to drop about $225-$250 for the round. And be warned, the course is very tough, with narrow, tree lined fairways and very small greens. It's not for the timid. But it is a top tour stop and a favorite of many, and of course the finishing hole is epic.

Another "must play" is Hilton Head National, just off the island next to the outlet shopping area. HH National is a Gary Player facility and features 27 holes of wonderful play. There are no homes, that's right, no homes anywhere to be found around the course! And they treat you like a member, AND it's an unbelieveable value. Prices start around $60, so it's one of those places you can play many times and not break the bank. Frankly, it's our favorite place to play because of it's treatment of players, value, and fantastic condition.

Then there are the Palmetto Dunes courses, which are all wonderful tracks. Both are affordable (not HT fees) and easy to get to. Don't overlook them.

As for where you might stay... I offer this opinion having stayed many times. I chose Palmetto Dunes to stay at because it's in the center of the island, which makes it much easier to get from place to place. If you're down in Harbour Town and go back out, it can add valuable time to the trip. Just an opinion, but in more than 10 visits it has always worked in our favor.

Enjoy!

Im loving reading this information about Mrytle go every year but usually only get to play a couple of rounds during the week as I usually go with the family. Am taking a trip with about 3 buddies this year to Myrtle and I am loving all this information will come in handy in our course decisions.

Been to MB many times over the years. It's a golfers dream and really hard to decide what courses to play in such a short time span. But I'm happy to offer up suggestions when you need to book times.

I completely second Chris's Hilton Head suggestion. Plenty of great golf, whether its cheap or expensive, to go around. When you're done golfing for the day, HH offers everything in terms of food, nightlife, shopping, sight-seeing, etc. I have been lucky enough to go a few times as a youngster and again a few times in college for various events. Love HH. Give it a look!

My boy and I played both King's North & National West when we were there last summer. Both of us played well and had a blast (it also gave "She who must be Obeyed" time to just lounge by the pool). The staff there is phenomenal. Course is always in decent shape (though they were getting ready to put in new greens on the West Course from what they were telling us).

Can't go wrong with free golf for the youngsters.

All the RTJ courses are very nice.  They're spaced out about two hours from each other so you can play one and still have time to drive to the next one for the following day.  I've played the course in Mobile a few times and it's beautiful.  They play the a LPGA tournament there in the spring.  Can't go wrong with any of these courses.  My buddies and I have talked about our "ideal" golf trip and doing the trail but of course i don't think our wives would care for it very much.

Grand National in Opleika near Auburn is a treat.

We go to Dothan every November but i have yet to play the RTJ course there.  I've heard it was very nice.  We usually play the Dothan National course since we stay at their hotel.  Just walk out the door and you're on the course.

Thanks for the warm welcome.  I've played a lot courses in the Northwest Florida area so if anybody has any questions just let me know.

I have nothing really, but...

Very interesting tennman98. I think there are probably other guys that try to figure out how to ask/tell their wives about a golf trip.

Tar Heel makes some good points, but we prefer courses with some change in elevation and MB is flat. Our favorite is Pinehurst - they have excellent packages for golf and it's as affordable as MB. Palm Springs is good and the RTJ in Alabama has several courses no more than 90 minutes apart with a wide variety of layouts.
