Golf Coronado

Golf Coronado

I played at Coronado G.C. Thursday, and thought I would share a couple of photos.

That's the Hotel Del Coronado from the 16th tee box. The Del is where the movie Some Like It Hot was filmed.

This pic is from the 18th green, looking at 2nd green, and 3rd tee box. The Coronado Bay Bridge is in the background, with the shipyards in the distance. This is a great track with excellent views. Its 6590 yards from the back tees and a very easy walk. Four holes are next to the bay, and sometimes you can see the Navy Seals in training. I highly recommend playing here if you ever get the chance, anytime of the year.

very nice golfer, particularly if you have a yacht. Sail in, golf, sail out. The greens look in very good condition.

Well this is a treat! Love the photos... And yes, I have indeed played the Coronado GC before, and it was a wonderful treat. As you have depicted in your photos, there are some wonderful views of the harbor, navy ships, and of course the boats. The other thing I remember was that it was ridiculously inexpensive for a course on the water in San Diego.

Brilliant! And do stay at the Hotel Del. It is fabulous.

Your right Heel, they raised the walking rate last year from $25 to $30. Super bargain. And the Hotel Del is outstanding. Sunday brunch is also great at the Del for a special treat.

Must be nice to get to places like this to play.  Some of us are stick in the mud stay at homes.  When I do travel to places like San Diego, my wife is usually with me and I don't get an opportunity to play golf.  Darn!

Hey pulplvr, I end up getting paired with a lot of guys traveling on business or vacations. They always find a way to get out to play a round or two. Sometimes its early out before an afternoon conference. Or they make a deal with their wife, trading for a round golf with something she wants to do. Happens all the time.

Don, very cool pictures. Reminds me of Salsulito a little with the boats. Haven't been to SD. A buddy if mine lived there for 3-4 years for work and loved the area. You are very lucky to get to play year round too!

Very nice and scenic.. I need to get back out there!

  •

Your photos are making me homesick for California! I grew up in Northern CA and I made a lot of trips down to SD - never had the chance to golf there though.

I love Coronado, but getting on there is like pulling teeth with no pain-killers! I love the look down 18!

It's not always so bad, the Monday before last I got there at 7 am and was playing at 7:10. And the Thursday before that was almost the same thing. As always, timing is everything.

  •

Ill try that, I always call 48 hours before and the phone lines stay busy! And once you get through, the earliest they have is like noon or 1pm, no thanks, I like to finish my round!

In the new, July issue of Golf Digest, there is an article about "Top Golf, $55 or Less". And Coronado G.C. is once again in the top 10, actually third place. Only $30 to walk weekdays and $35 on weekends, a great place to play if your in San Diego. I've played there the last three weeks and the course is in great shape right now, as it is most of the year.

I have also played Pinon Hills, sixth place on the list, in the northwest corner of New Mexico. It's not really on the way to anywhere, but if you can get there, you'll be happy you did.

Great fun. Coronado is a really  great place for lots of reasons, obviously golf is the number one reason.

  •

Coronado is always fun (only an occasional distraction of Navy Vessel).
