Golf in Ventura CA

  •

Hey fellow FJ fans, anyone know any good tracks near Ventura CA?  I'll be out there next week and would love to sneak in a round.  Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

    Hi Josh,

Check out the following courses and their websites.  It's been a whiles since I've played them, but these would be what I can recommend out there.

    Ventura area:

    Rustic Canyon GC

    www.rusticcanyongolfcourse.com

    Links style course

    Moorpark CC:

    http://www.moorparkgolf.com/

    They have 3 nines.

    Ojai Valley Inn Golf

    http://www.ojairesort.com/

(have not played this in many years since they rerouted some holes)

    In the Santa Barbara area:

    Sand Piper GC

    http://www.sandpipergolf.com/

(40 miles up north from Ventura- coastal)

    Rancho San Marcos GC

    http://www.rsm1804.com/

(40 miles up north from Ventura- inland/mountain)

Hope this helps. . . Enjoy your rounds!

Thanks. Have you heard of Buenaventura, Oliva's, or River Ridge? Those are all really close to where I'll be working.

  •

Yes!  In those three, I think you would enjoy Olivas and River Ridge over Buena.  But I've always liked the Billy Bell design  and layout at River Ridge over Olivas.  Either way, I hope you find a your self a good time and a great round.

Just played Ojai two weeks ago and it's in great shape! Top notch service, the course is short but demands precision!

  •

Worked a 14.5 hour day today so I've got minimal work tomorrow, which means I'll try to sneak in 36 at River Ridge. Wish me luck

Play well, Josh!  Enjoy your day. . . It should be nice weather out there tomorrow.  Good luck!

  •

Well the weather was awesome. 60* and sunny! I rocked shorts and everyone told me I was crazy. In New England 60 is spring. I walked 36 holes and played ok. I was pretty tired as this was my first (and second) walking round of the year. I liked both courses a lot, the staff and everyone I got paired up with was great. California is awesome. I can't wait to go back in a couple weeks.

That's nice to hear, Josh . . . sounds like fun.  Welcome to California.  Lots of places to play.

  •

We'll I'm heading back on Monday and will try to sneak in a round or two. I'll be in Santa Barbra so I think Sand Piper and Ranco San Marcos will be on the docket. Since we just got a foot of snow in Boston I'm ready to roll now.

    Play La Purisima!!!

(I just thought that if you were in this area, this course is also a must visit.  Nothing fancy here. . . just a player's course.  Many walkers, and you will love the greens!)

There may not be much up at Lapur, but there are a lot of golf on that course that you will just love to pieces.

    Josh:

FYI:  (don't wait till next week!) Sand Piper greens will be aerated on 03/17 & 03/18.

You should be ok, this week, and your weather should be low to mid 70s.

    Play well!

Hey Noeldoaf, I loved both Sandpiper and Rancho.  The views at SP were unreal. I've never played a course quite like it. Rancho was my favorite as a pure golf course. Robert Trent Jones jr did a great job. I'll be back in May, and will have to check out La Purisima. I'll definitely be California dreamin this week, we'll be getting snow here tomorrow...

It's good to hear you like RSM.  I do, too!  I like the Sand Piper for its challenge, but the conditioning there can be soggy at times.  I just hope it was satisfactory for your round when your were on.  Also, that course was designed by the same man, Billy Bell Jr., who also did Torrey Pines(N/S).

    Stay warm, Josh.
