My worst nightmare... Came true today

  •

Well boys and girls... I was the latest victim of theft.  When a friend dropped me off back at my car after class (we have class together so I had been parked in HIS neighborhood for approximately 2.5 hours) my side window was broken.  I called the police and they said there had been no reports but they would grab some prints and hopefully be able to ID the person.  They said its almost impossible to convict someone just off finger prints since anyone could just walk by and touch my car.  They got about 4 good ones off the handles and side, probably mine and my family or friends' but I hope one matches someone so I can get my stuff back.

Fortunately for me, my clubs were at home but they did get away with a couple items I am not pleased about.  Most importantly, they got my new FJ ICON Sports (white/black)... not happy.  They grabbed my iPod, some old CD's, a bottle of cologne and about $150.00 cash.  Luckily I don't live of out my car and have a lot more stuff in there but this is bad enough.

I am absolutely amazed that someone would have the audacity to do something like this in the middle of the day, in a NICE neighborhood.  I feel so uncomfortable knowing some guy or girl was in my car going through my things.  I really don't what to say but I just thought I'd share my day with you.  NOT a good one to say the least!

It is a sad day for you and I am sympathetic with you. The feeling of having ones privacy invaded is very strong. I hope that you will be able to get some of those thingsback, but in most cases the items you lost will never be recovered unfortunately. Pawn shops deal in this stuff all the time and unless the PD in your area actively pursues this theft, I am afraid you will not have a good result. I know, having dealt with this type of thing in the past. And I hope that the ICON shoes they took don't fit and if they do the shoes give them blisters the size of goose eggs. If you want a guess as to who took the items, I would say from experience that it was persons in the age range of 16 - 25 yrs.

I know how you feel. My vacation condo got broken into last year and we pretty much got cleaned out. It was at least 3 months before I even knew it happened!

Hopefully you are well insured and will get everything repaired and replaced.

    Good Luck

EM that sucks! Nothing worse than walking to your car and seeing broken glass. Good thing your clubs were not in the car.

    Hope they find the person.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. I had a break in a while back, they stole my clubs, car stereo, and a few other items. Thank god your clubs weren't in there @ the time of theft. I like the idea where the shoes don't fit and they get egg size blisters.

    EMK,

This is something happening everywhere, it doesn't matter what neighborhood you live in. I've had a car broken into and I know how you feel. When this happened to me it was like I was violated and it was an inconvenience. But, the things taken, can be replaced, be thankful no one was hurt.

I have no clue about insurance, my dad is handling that aspect.  I think the deductible is higher than the value of the items stolen so I doubt we will claim anything other than fixing the window.

I just can't believe what some people will do for a couple bucks... it seems so pointless to run around and steal peoples things then sell them for a couple dollars.  People need to get a job or a life or both.

I guess I better start placing a couple orders to get the items replaced...  anyone want to buy a FJ belt for around $600.00? =)

EM... this is a major bummer. I will admit thought hat seeing your post, "My worst nightmare came true.." had me thinking much more terrible thoughts. This is bad, no question.... Reminds me of the time I had my whole car stolen. Never got it back, and I always laugh when I see a car that's similar; wondering.... could that be it....

OK, now the reality.... You stuff can be replaced. Yeah it sucks to have this invasion of privacy and inconvenience of all this, but it isn't the worst thing that can happen. believe me, I'm sure there is all kinds of really bad stuff that is way worse. I'm thankful you are OK. That you didn't lose your job or any family members. That you haven't found out that you have an incurable disease, and that for the most part, the sun can come up tomorrow. This will work out and a great lesson will be learned....

You made me realize that I shouldn't leave all my golf gear stored in my car all the time. No more bag in the trunk with all my shoes, hats, sweaters and balls organized in the back. I'll get a locker at the club now....

I have a locker with all my other stuff in it at the club.  Shoes I was taking home for the winter so nothing would happen to them... kind of a coincidence if you ask me.

I know things could be worse, but I just hate it happening to anyone period.  People have no respect for anyones things or anyone for that one.  It just really rips at me when this sort of thing happens, my uncle had his whole bag yanked from his truck one night about 3 months ago and nothing was ever found then either.

I hope this individual needs this more than me and obviously they think they do.  I can't be mad about it and I'm a forgiving individual so I'm going to wish harm on someone, but I know they will get theirs in the end.  It's just so frustrating something like this happened.

I know I've had worse things happen (girlfriend was diagnosed with Crohn's disease (incurable) a month after we started dating.. going on 5 years now... , my house burnt down in 1999 on Christmas Eve and the list goes on) but it's always such a "this won't happen to me" moment that it gets your emotions going.

I am glad no one got hurt and yes material items can be replaced but it's the fact that they shouldn't have to be replaced that irritates me.  I guess whoever said "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", never had their things stolen!

sorry to hear about this nightmare...i definitely can relate as my car was stolen recently and i was fortunate that the person stealing the car only wanted to joy ride and take the cash/coins i had laying in the car.

luckily they weren't bright enough to open my trunk as my clubs and everything else was in the trunk ( i have since no longer kept my clubs in the trunk) .

yes, depending on the deductible it may or may not be worth making a claim -- as grumpy says luckily no one was hurt and "stuff" can be replaced.
