I was watching the golf channel late last night and they were talking about golf possibly becoming an olympic sport in the future.  I am not against golf becoming an olympic but I dont think its a good idea because they already have four majors, the Fedexcup playoffs, the Ryder Cup, and the Presidents Cup.  With all those events when the olympics come along it seems like it would be hard to schedule around that.

I would say no. But then again I am in fover of going back to the days (must be old!) when only Amateurs competed in the Olympics. If it gets in, there should be no professionals. I think that the Olympic movement needs to get back to its amateur roots.

I think it would be a good thing.  It is something that will help the sport grow.  When the golf channel was talking about it, they compared it to basketball... it really helped open the doors to others and showed people what it is all about.

There is a lot of room to grow and this is a natural step in the progression.  I think it would be very positive to add the Olympics to the list.  It will bring out all the best players and it will be played in more unique spots than the other majors... you imagine the type of course they could be playing depending on where the Olympics is at?  You could see a lot of courses you never knew existed and that could do wonders for the golf community.

The Olympics is only every four years so it wouldn't create that big of a scheduling conflict.  The powers to be are triyng to grow the game of golf worldwide and this is a great way to do so.  I think they should have 4-5 man teams and play a mini Ryder Cup format.

I think if you want worldwide growth with the backing of each government's olympic dollars, then it would be good for golf.

I wouldn't mind seeing the amature route.  That would be nice to see the up and coming stars of tomorrow.  Doesn't sound like a bad idea.. too bad professionals wouldn't go for it.

Too much money to be made.

i don't like the idea of pros of any sport in the olympics.  i also beleive that the olympic sports should be more aimed at strength and agility of the competitor.  totally geared toward the physical and not toward the things like shooting, archery or golf where you are aiming to hit a target of one sort or another, these are fine competitions but to me belong in some other venue than the olympics. oh! and polo doesn't belong their either.

Well the Olympics has changed as time has changed (obviously).  They have to encompass all the new sports that were not around when it was originally started, otherwise we would still have writing and poetry as Olympic "sports".,, :)

I like the idea, I think its the natural progression, they have almost all the other sports so I would see golf as a good candidate for the Olympics.

I think it should be an Olympic sport but I an not to sure about the pros competeing.  I think all Olympic sports should be amateur only.

If Curling is an Olympic sport, then there is no reason to not allow golf.  It would be just another venue to promote the sport worldwide.

Sure, I think it should be an olympic sport. If syncronized swimming could be than why not golf?

I don't know that you'd really be able to attract the best players.  I'd watch if they do add it though!

Golf would make a great addtion to the Olympics if done right.   It should only involve amateurs and they should go with match play.

Isn't that the truth... how sad.  Funny though

Golf should definitely be an olympic sport. It would be great for the game.

I agree with the others in that it would be nice to see it as a match play event.
