Playing (or attempting to play) all venues on Tour

  •

While the likelihood of seeing Tiger or Phil in Silvis, IL for the John Deere is as far fetched as what I'm about to suggest, does anyone out there agree that the Tour should look at requiring players to rotate through all of the tournaments over a specified period of time (maybe every 5 years or so)?

I know the main defense is these players are independent contractors and can play where they want.  Does anyone think this would be good so that even the smaller markets get to see the BEST players at least once every so many years?

    Your thoughts please...

I think the idea of doing that has merit.  I think it would help some of the smaller events survive and attract more sponsors.   Even if an event only got Tiger once every five years, just think of the money that one year would bring in for the event and the community.

I don't think it should be a requirement.  I think the players have to make the decision and if they do not feel the tournament is necessary, then they should not have to play in it.

I think the smaller events make a lot of money as it is and it doesn't necessarily matter to me if TW is there or not, I just like good golf.

I agree. I think if the "big name" players played in some of the smaller events it would bring out larger crowds and the sponsors might be more willing to spend the money to support them.

The Tour should require that they "give back" a bit to the smaller events.

Totally think that is a good idea. The smaller tournements are the ones that are hurting the most with the economy and a star plaing in one could help keep it from going away.

congrats on making ambassador by the way, I am trying to get it done...

How would you deem a marquee player, though?  And how do you "make" them attend a smaller event?  It's a nice idea but a really tough one to regulate fairly, IMO.

i don't know if it will help any tournament survive, look at the buick at grand blanc michigan. tiger was there this year, he was there 2 of the three times i attended in the lat 6 years. now no sponsership, will there be a tourny there next year, who knows?

for the fans yes it's a great idea but i don't think it's going to save a tournament just because tiger or phil show up to play.

While the idea is a good one, I don't think it will happen.  The players are esentially independant contractors who have no obligation to play anywhere, from what I understand.
