Vijay has defenders..

    The Telegraph ( a UK newspaper of some renown, published a column questioning the rush to judgement and the career gallows for Vijay Singh in the deer antler spray debacle. Here is a link to the column:

    It is worth a read! Pertinent points:

    • Has the Tour ascertained through its own testing that this spray actually contains the banned substance?  
    • Is the Tour aware that minute quantities of the banned substance IGF-1 may be found in milk and beef?
    • That the experts in this field generally hold to the conclusion that IGF-1 if not injected does not remain in the body?

    Perhaps the Tour in taking these questions into consideration before ruling on Vijay's fate.

    probably not, probably not, and probably not....very good points.  However, how about the the question of did he know, or did he not know??

    Teamtitleist1 - Ah!  We only have his word to go on and he said he was not aware of any banned substances in this concoction. But if others int eh pro golf community had been warned and had stopped using the stuff, one might argue that Mr. Singh should have known - Maybe the Tour doesn't communicate very well with their members...who knows??!

    None of that matters really.....if a group like the PGA tour has a list of banned products and it is on it then that all that really needs to be said.Doesnt matter what the effects are.

    They made this clear a couple years ago when Calcavecchia was promoting this spray.

    doesn't really matter.  if it's a banned substance, it's against the rules.  if a ball is not on the approved list, it's not legal.  even if it is no better than an approved ball.

    Further reading about this situation turns up the fact that the Tour doesn't definitively know if this Deer Antler spray actually contains the banned IGF-1.Singh clearly stated that he took the spray, not IGF-1 and of course expressed shock that the spray might indeed contain IGF-1. My guess is that the chemists the Tour uses for drug testing are procuring samples of the  spray for analysis  - The Tour never banned the deer stuff, just the IGF-1 purported to be an element of the mixture. This has to be why the Tour hasn't made any pronouncement to date. But if they find banned substances in this spray Vijay should face the music...
