Just a thought (J.A.T.)

Now that golf is almost done on TV as well as on the course, I am stuck watching other sports.

I am noticing that every sport has it's own little identifying rituals and was wondering how some of the activities from other sports would translate to golf. Now this is just for fun, so don't anybody say that I want to destroy the game of golf. Like I said, J.A.T.

What if golfers, after making an eagle, took off their shirts and swing it around their heads and ran around the green like soccer players? Doing this after birdies would slow the game down to much so I think only after eagle or better.

Or player and caddy butting heads after a clutch putt for par like football players?

Anybody else have to much non-golf free time on their hands and thought about goofy stuff?

One more thing, why are soccer player carried out on cute little stretchers and football players(American) have to take a cart? Though, I guess there aren't that many 325#+ soccer players out there.

It's going to be a long winter...

    Fishbone....

OK dude, 2 things here. First, please get another 5 to 7 posts in so you can hit Ambassador status quickly and stop having these crazed thoughts. OMG!

Now, having reflected a bit, I think golf already has a couple "transferred" rituals. The Tiger "fist pump" came along long after footbal QB's like Dan Marino and Troy Aikman used them. The "Knuckle bump" has long been a baseball ritual after someone hits a home run, right? I also believe that Hale Irwin used a "hockey stick (putter) over his head while running around the green" after winning an event. This is much like Justin Leonard's infamous "stick (putter) over the head celebration at the Ryder Cup.

This said, and I'm scared to mention it, I am hopeful none of the other lame victory symbols like whipping a club down after a key shot or screaming after a key long drive actually comes to pass. I prefer the classy hand the ball back to the ref or a simple tip of the hat. Yipes!

What if when one player is playing their "rival" they take photos with their fists up like boxers?

What if after every shot, they let out a grunt like tennis players?

What if when a fan was hit by the ball, they charged the tee box like in baseball?

What if the caddie and player chest/hip bump after a big putt like in football?

What if every player spanked the other one on the butt after a good shot like in basketball?

What if every time you hit a poor shot you threw a temper tantrum like Blake from the Big Break... oh wait...

I was actually just thinking about the tennis grunt. Could you imagine Anika grunting like Monica Seles on every swing, even putts?

I remember the "Bash Brothers" in St. Louis with the forearm bump back in the day. Big Mac and Jose Canseco.

Or when Vince Coleman set the record for the most stolen bases, he took the base. What if you got a hole in one you just took the hole? Flag and all. Drop it right in the bag. Maybe carry a ziplock bag or something so you don't get dirt all over your grips.

I think we are getting desperate for something to talk about. I think a quiet prayer by the player  would be appropriate after some of the shots we see. They need all the help they can get at times as we all know. We might even need one after this particular forum.

Oh Lord. Do not, I repeat, do not, allow the Icky Shuffle or any of the other bizarro endzone dances to even enter the minds of golfers celebrating a good shot.

  •

Let's just watch Happy Gilmore in the offseason and that will take care of this.  hahaha

  •

how about every time your make a putt - shout -  It's in the HOLE

Yes eagle, too much time on our hands and too many wild thoughts...let's just keep ripping on Big Break and stay away from these crazy suggestions.
