End of Season

I have a 7 foot putting mat that I keep in my office and practice on that during the winter. Also plan on taking some lessons as I did LY to keep the swing fresh and learn some new things. Agree with you on the dome, but still end up there a few times a year just so I remember what it feels like to hit the golf ball.

Before  we retired I would putt on the carpets in the house and some times in the basement on the cement floor. Talk about fast greens, cement is as fast as you can get. It did keep me a little sharper.

I live in NY and I  play all year, if there is no snow on the ground or the temps are above freezing. If there is a long lapse in playing time I go to an enclosed dome or driving ranges in the area with heated stalls. Both have mats, but I feel it still keeps the swing thoughts in your head.

Our season is definitely coming to a close up here in the Boston area. One positive is the "off-season" rates that are taking effect at some of the nicer semi-private courses. Other than that, this is when I typically go into a 4 month funk. 

I try to stay sharp by taking lessons at a local golf shop and get my swings in at the heated bays. Neither are ideal but both are better than not swinging a club at all. Putting in the family room is a nightly ritual and helps keep me sane.

Luckily my in-laws live in Florida so we try to get down there as much as possible during the winter months.

those "off-season" rates are nice. i just got something int he mail yesturday where you can play the irish course are Whisling Straights for $104 in October anf only $60 in Nov until they close. Pretty amazing prices fro that course.

With the exception of snow, I really don't put my clubs away at all.  I will play even if it is very cold.  There is a group that will play all year round as long as there is no snow. 

If it gets really cold, snowy we have golf domes where I can hit some balls and the better domes even have large putting areas to keep my stroke as smooth as it will get.

So... if turf is everyone's problem, what's stopping someone from making "box" greens much like they make sod for lawns?  I could see paying an "membership" fee and get the privelage to hit off grass year round or at least through the winter.

By box greens, I mean tee boxes that are maybe 8x8 that can be moved and replaced by other "boxes" with grass that have real grass in them.  Each night you could toss down some new greens, to keep them warm, you could have a "sun room" towards the top of the indoor complex and let the sun beat down on it and you can water it indoors and what not.  The grass would never know the difference as long as you could simulate a close atmosphere, I wouldn't think it would be all that hard to be honest.

You could use turf for the greens but that generally isn't a big deal since we are all carpet putters anyways.

Maybe I am just out of my mind.

Are these golf domes located right outside of Barter Town? Is there an Aunty Entity there looking strangely like Tina Turner?

We have some indoor hitting nets in the basement of our club.  Ill hit balls in there from time to time if  Iget bored.  In Kentucky we have good days from time to time so I try to sneak out when I can.

I do my best as our club has a year round practice facility.  Basically a glorified heated garage with some video equipment in it, but MUCH better than nothing.

I try to get to Florida a few times and we have a number of indorr hitting facilities in the area. I try to use video for swing mechanics when I practice indoors.
