More Gals Participating

More Gals Participating

  •

I don't think that we have more than one of the gals and that is GolfChick. I had a conversation with her about this very same subject and she said that she has found others not to have the interest in getting deeper into the Golf world. I wonder if there is anything we can do to create more interest in this Forum for the gals. Or is it just that they, the girls, just want to play golf and not become involved in anything else. It may have something to do with some being in a professional type of job and then having to go home and take on more responsibilties that we don't have and that they are using golf as a means of pure relaxation. I don't know, but is there anything we can do to create more interest? Maybe this is why the LPGA is on a downward slide because other women are not taking a serious interest in the game and therefore not supporting those involved.

Who knows. Any thoughts on this???

There is another female user, not quite as active as golfchick, but she does comment a bit.  Can't remember the screen name at this time, but I do know of at least one more!

IMO, I think the majority of ladies that golf are in it for the social aspect moreso than the golf aspect.  There are a lot of females that like all aspects of golf and really take a deep interest in it, but I think they are fewer and far between than the males.

I will have to brain storm a little and hopefully we can come up with a good way to gain more attention from the females.

I think there is more then one girl on the forum. I remember seeing another girl, when I was looking at some old threads. I tried looking at some old threads before posting this, but couldn't find it. Maybe Chris or Mike can tell us if there are other girls here.

I just realized something after my last post. To our female members what is the PC term, gals, girls, ladies, etc? After all the LPGA slogan is "These Girls Rock".

I don't know too many women that wouldn't feel intimidated to join a forum like this as I'm sure they would think most of the men would "belittle" them or not take their opinions seriously.

For me, I'd like to figure out a way to get more women involved to be able to show the girls high school golf team I coach that is a serious sport that can open doors to them for the future.

I will forward this community to the girls on the team and hopefully a few may take advantage of the conversation / information available to them

Mondo, great idea. Maybe they in turn will tell others. They may be HS  girls now, but they are the future of this sport and new blood is needed. Eagle

Hi guys -- I'll pass along what I told eagle3 -- many of the women I play with just aren't interested in the "golf conversation" the way many men are. I work in the golf industry and have always loved the sport, so it's natural for me to take an interest. Plus, my kid's pretty much grown and I'm divorced, so I don't have a lot of the responsibilities many of my golf girlfriends do.

My feeling is that a lot of women would rather blog and chat about other things -- especially kids, relationships, fashion, etc. -- than talk about specific golf issues -- or non-issues. When I'm on the course with them, we're not talking about swing planes and performance, though shoe comfort may certainly come up! I'm trying to start topics that will interest other women.

And ladies, women, girls, gals -- how we're referred to depends on the speaker, the audience and the situation. Most female golfers don't take umbrage with any term as long as the context isn't condescending.

Thanks to everyone for the wonderful comments on this one. Here is a thought.

Golfchick has it spot on when she says the ladies are much more into the social aspects, because that's the way it is. My wife and daughter spend incredible amounts of time texting or Twittering their various friends. But it is all social banter, not hard core topics.

That's the opportunity for us here I think. The guys are all about the new "stuff," the stats, their favorite player, courses, etc. We want to compare and contrast all of that like a spreadsheet. I think maybe if the social elements of the "community" could be elaborated a bit that could appeal more to the ladies. A place to chat with others that enjoy the game and are really looking for comrades. Maybe some special articles from our FJ Team that are strictly for the ladies. Maybe a way to get current users of MyJoys into the discussions. I know that I see lots of females on the course wearing them, so they have some level of passion.

I'm sure we can find a way to appeal to the diversity of the game here.

Hey golfchick, what types of topics do you think would appeal to the ladies out there that would lure them into the community?

I know sometimes when I'm online, my wife (who is a golfer) will make fun of some of my posts as they are too specific and not of interest to her.

I'll ask my wife as well and maybe we can figure out what will attract them to the site

I thought of a great analogy today -- how many of you are into fantasy football or baseball? And how many women do you know who participate in those? You'll find some women who enjoy it, but most of them don't. I'm SO not a fan of fantasy sports, but I know so many men who are. Venus/Mars, anyone?

As for golf topics that will interest women? I think fashion is the first thing that will interest them, and we need something to get them hooked. Then address the social aspect of golf, especially developing a regular foursome or a larger group for golf trips.

I do think the FJ site is a little difficult to navigate in terms of seeing all product at once. For instance, the shoes, gloves, socks are separated by "collection" -- all the LoPros are together. Well, if I'm looking at a LoPro and then want to look at a different collection, I have to go to that collection and click on it -- can't see them all from one place to compare.

Great insight and good suggestions. Maybe the guys at FJ can come up with some ideas along those lines. It would be nice if we could get more gals into this community.

To second your opinion on fantasy sports, I don't get it either...too much time spent studying players, who's hurt, who's not...not interested.

I do agree with figuring out a way to make websites easier to navigate...

What if there was a link to allowing for "suggested" fashions - something where women (or men) could create (similar to myjoys) apparel...think that might hook some of the women to the community?

Great suggestions. Would be great o be able to put items together like you are almost planning the outfit (shoes, glove, hat and polo). Basically you would be creating a vertual shopping bag based on a total look. Could be a very cool program.

I am addicted to fantasy football and my wife looks at me like I am nuts sometimes! Boys and their toys I guess.....
