Painful for a Golfer

Painful for a Golfer

Yesterday I went to Ann Arbor to see the Unversity of Michigan football game. You just gotta love college sports! Anyway, here is something that die hards and grinders everywhere will just cry "Oh No" over.

The university owns the course, which is directly across Stadium Drive (nice) from The Big House. In order to accommodate the 109,000 fans each week, the course is closed during each home game. The reason? They use the fairways from holes 1 and 9 to park cars! Yes. When I first heard it, it kind of freaked me out. I've been a some games over the past 2 years, and didn't pay much mind. Yesterday I saw it from the stands and I was just looking at those fairways with tailgaters on them and getting all misty.

Never fear guys. Last fall I played the course after a game, and the superintendant really keeps things in order. No trash or junk on the course. Also, if it gets rainy or sloppy, I have heard that they don't use the fairways, just the rough. The "parking" hasn't caused any issues with the course from a playability standpoint. If you're in Michigan and haven't played, it's a track that will test you, so come on and play.

Just so you know Tar Heel, the course they are parking on is NOT the true University course.

Yes, they park on a golf course, but not the really nice University course -- from what I am told.

I'm hoping I'm not wrong but I could be.

Ok, I'm a Buckeye, so I'm against all things M*ch*g*n but that even makes me cringe!!!  I hope you're right and it's not the university course w/ the nice reputation....

  •

Better to have controled kaoss, than bedlam on a course.

  •

I don't think I'd be playing that course.  Do you get relief from tire tracks? LOL

  •

EM, no tire tracks to speak of... So far from what I've seen, they manage it well. But just the thought of it......

  •

Mondo... Hmmm. Very odd. This is the University of Michigan Golf Course, which has the photos of the Men's and Ladies golf teams hanging in the lobby. They sell 100% of their gear in the pro shop with UM University Golf Course logos (not just UM logos) and they do not serve alcohol because it is university property.

So, that being said, there is an Ann Arbor Club that is quite Hoi Paloie, and I hear many alumni are part of it. The course I am writing about is the one that gets parked on. I say just head on over and give it a try! Then you'll know for sure.

It's possible Tar Heel, I was told in the past that they didn't park on the "real" course but another ajacent to the main course...

Not saying I'm right, but that was what I thought based on past conversations with people.

wow, that is horrifying.  The UF golf course is very close to the stadium and, as you can imagine, parking is overfull for any game.  They would NEVER park on the course though, people would be up in arms if there were cars on the ROUGH
