Pro V vs. Pro Vx

Pro V vs. Pro Vx

  •

I need some help, what do you consider the biggest difference between the Pro V and Pro Vx?  I have not enough of the two balls to get a good understanding of what the key differences are...

    Thanks for your help!

I believe that the ProV1 is softer and the ProV1x is made for a bit more distance.

Agreed If you need the control around the greens instead of a little more distance take the ProV1

Hey Chris, the two biggest differences are spin and distance.

The Pro V is going to be softer allowing for more spin while the Pro V1x is harder which will go farther.

    Hope this helps...

I find that the ProV1x ball spins a bit less than the Pro V1 ball. For me this is a better ball as I put a fair amount of spin on the ball anyway.

Check this out from Titleist, it may help.

Hey Mondo, Congrats on the new level. Good going

Chris, The difference is spin and control for the ProV1 as it provides a softer feel around the greens. The ProV1x is a little harder and gives  less spin and greater distance.  I have found that unless you are a real fan and devotee of golf, the average golfer, including myself, has a hard time differentiating between the two. I use both and it seems, at times, with equal success. Hope this helps.

    Thanks eagle, appreciate it...

Definitely enjoyable to find a site like this to talk golf, especially on days when I can't get out to the course.

Congrats Mondo, I'm on your tail!

I don't think there is a large difference in distance off the tee (IMO), but if you do have a little trouble spinning the ball, I'd suggest the V1.  I use the V1x and sometimes it still spins off the planet but when I use the V1 it spins crazy all the time and I can't control it as well as I can with the V1x.

Most players honestly probably couldn't really tell the difference if you gave them two unmarked balls but it does make a huge difference with the wedges and short irons.

I'm going to have to agree with the ever wise Eagle here.  Not that big of a difference from what I can tell.  If given the choice between the two, I would probably go with the ProV1.....just my preference from past experiences.

I was a long time Pro V1x player and was always really happy with the ball.  I did spend a large part of last year testing a number of different brands out there but ended up coming back to the ProV1 line.  When the 2009 versions came out, I bought a box of ProV1x and was really happy.  I read an article on how to find the best ball for your game and went out to the course to go through the "green to tee" fitting that Titleist recommends.

At the end of that session I ended up switching to the ProV1. I felt like I was getting better control around the greens, better feel on putts and a little bit of better performance from 100 yards and in.  Also, I was only losing about 5 yards on my drives so it just made more sense to go with the ball that might help me with my scoring.  At the end of the day, I really like both the ProV1 and ProV1x and won't be switching anytime soon.

    md,

I agree the distance loss/gain isn't really significant so the only thing that makes the balls different (for me) is the spin ability.

You can read what Titleist says all day, but the only way you will know which one is right for you, is by testing it.  One might be described perfectly for how you think you play but the other may be the right ball.

Agree 100% about getting out on the course to test.  Part of the Titleist recommendation is to do exactly that. I was able to get out as a single towards the end of the day at a course near me where I played 18 using at least two shots at each hole. One ProV1 and ProV1x. I also hit a number of shots from the same spot as well just switching between the two to narrow down the decision.  Testing aside...it was a great day/evening on the course.
