Making it interesting

Making it interesting

There are many golfers that I know (including myself) that play better golf if the interest level of the match has been increased due to a monetary wager.

Now, I can neither confirm or deny that I have ever played a match for money, because gambling is illegal at Bushwood, sir, but I was wondering, if you were to make the match a little more interesting, how would you do it, what is your game?

Remember-all the names have been changed to protect the innocent so you can be honest.

I really don't gamble anymore. I don't consider a skins game where you throw in $20 as really gambling. But back  a long time ago we used to play a Nassau with automatic presses. Some one new to the game asked me how much you could win. I told them i did not know but I did know that you sure could lose you a**.

I generally have around $100 to $150 on the line during any given match.

I don't play any better or worse when I have a side agreement because when I am competing I always am focused on playing my best golf and I don't even think about the agreement until after the round.  Then I collect...

Another thing I do to make things more interesting when it's time for me to slack off a little is bringing only 3 clubs on the course.  Putter, 8 iron and 4 iron... that can make life difficult.

I like the $2 nassau with auto presses.  Just enough to keep it interesting.  I have found that it doesn't matter to me if it is $2 or $200 I still try the same.

I don't play any differently if there is a bet or not.  The only area, maybe, could be my focus on the short putts.  There are never any gimmes in my group, so I always have to focus on making the short putts.  I prefer it, to be honest.  Sometimes, if I'm out by myself, I may be a little casual with the little one footers, etc.   I would rather be forced to make those.

Hey you want to what a gimme is?

Its an agreement between two people who can't putt

As far as gambling goes, there is very little of it when we play. Often someone suggests playing for a round of drinks at a particular hole or highest score buys at the end of the round. Once in a great while, "Its 25cents you don't make that putt" type of bet. Never anything too serious and we all have a good time with no hard feelings.

I game we play sometimes is FIRS / GIRS & PUTTS. You add up the fairways hit off the tee, greens in regulation and putts made each hole. Add them up after 18 and pay the difference.

When I play with my friends it is usually a $2 nassau with automatic presses. We also add the $1 junk (birdies, greenies, sandies). Nobidy gets hurt if they have a bad day and the money goes on the table for lunch.

Tournament play is another thing. There is after all prize money to be won!

Im not a big gambler so I dont really get into any big money games.  A few bucks for me will hold my interest.  Makes me concentrate a bit more and keeps my head in the game

I play no better or worse if I have money on the line.  My buddies and I play a lot of match play.  So that always keeps you focused.  If we play for anyting, it is for a round of drinks.

We play skins @ 1.00 dollar a hole plus 5.00 per 9 on overall score. The most you can loose is 38.00 so this way there are no hard feelings. I also played a game called 9's not so sure as to the scoring system but I lost 4.00 dollars on 9 holes . Now I've got to find a second job.

There are usually  2 or 3 games I play when out...the first is the basic skins game where we all throw $25 in.  I'll make my side bets with a $3/side $10 sweep bet and than within the group we will play a "dots" game where if within your group you are low man (skin) you get a dot, 2 putt a par three being on in regulation you get a dot and if your make any birdie you get a dot and if your birdie is a skin  you get two dots.

At the end add up all the dots and depending on wager amount for dot that amount is put into the pot and than distributed by total dots.

This can get quite pricey if your the foursome is hitting alot of greens and making birdies.

Highest dot total I've been involved with in a foursome is 33 dots between 4 guys.  Thankfully I had more than half of them and walked away quite happy.
