You see him as RESTRICTING his hip turn???  That is the most UN-RESTRICTED hip turn ever!!  You see the intial "shift" of the hips and THEN the massive turn!  You will also notice the fantastic secondary axis tilt of the spine.  This makes for a lot of speed boy!

For those that were asking about more information...a number of years back, I wrote a page about Mike Austin.

It's lists the common products and people (some of which and whom have already been mentioned) who you'll commonly find when it comes to Mike.

Some of the people listed include:

Mike Dunaway, Dan Shauger, Phillip Reed, myself, Thomas Dang, John Marshall, Steve Pratt, DJ Watts, Heiko Falko, Chuck, etc

There are also links to their websites, products, etc...including my video about Mike.  :-)

    Hi Bigtoilet -

Must have been a bad day in communication land for me - it happens..My description of the Austin swing as "restricted" is, quite plainly, wrong. As I see it, and I may be seeing it incorrectly, that shift back in the back swing "pre-loads" the turn - A lateral move back pulls the hips into the beginning of the back swing hip turn - There isn't a conscious effort made to begin the turn with this move  - It just happens...correct? In fact your whole torso moves back and as you load the left hip, your body is now turned 45 degrees or so - You've simply re-oriented the body position to the ball. The conventional approach turns the torso and shoulders while restricting the hips with the notion that you build power twisting against the relatively stable lower body.  My body says you build back pain doing this!

In you humble opinion, which of the Mike Austin devotees most effectively conveys the proper motion of the swing? Who is the best teacher of the Austin swing out there?

Thanks you Jaacob! The page you compiled and your web site are awesome products contributing to the larger mission of publicizing and building awareness about Mike Austin and this very powerful golf swing...I am a work in progress but hints of the potential of this methodology, about one out of every 6 or 7 swings, makes me continue this journey into a new swing with enthusiasm!

Had the good fortune of taking lessons from Mike Austin for years. A brilliant man and quite a character. I posted clips for people at www.mentoredbythelegend.com. Hope they provide you with some insights.

Welcome Sluggo300! The FJ community is a diverse, wide-ranging group with knowledgeable individuals passionate about the game of golf ans the tools with which to improve their golf experience. For others in the community, check out Chuck's (aka Sluggo300) web site to see some of the better instructional footage of Mike Austin at work with Chuck. Anyone experiencing pain or injury in their life because of their golf swing would do well to investigate and understand Austin's kinetically correct swing methodology. This is a different swing technique from the conventional approach and it does work! I would also personally recommend you look at the mechanically correct swing of DJ Watts at DJ Watts Golf - look on You Tube to see his swing in motion..Great stuff!
