Does playing in cold weather help or hurt your game?

  •

Playing in Chicago, I have the potential to play in cold weather year round.

As long as there is no snow and the temp is over 30° I will play. I personally have a harder time with the falling leaves everywhere. I lose balls in the middle of the fairway and forget about if you miss the fairway.

When I do play in the cold, I keep one ball in my pocket and have one in play and alternate every hole. I don't know if it is legal, but I don't have any hand warmers or anything in the pocket with the ball.

I also go into a round of cold weather golf not expecting to play great and just be happy with nice shots and good contact. If it bounces over the green, I live with it and know in better conditions, it would have been a good shot.

    grumpy,

I didn't know this existed until I did a little search but it looks like FJ makes a glove designed specifically to reduce vibrations felt that cause the stinging you were referring to.

Might be worth a shot if you have that issue....

EMK, Thanks, I will look into this glove. If I buy it, I will post an update on the forum.

In winter time I dont get too upset if I play well.  Even with the right outwear its hard for me to get losened up.  As long as I have fun out there thats all that matters.

FUN, the reason you play.  Year round golf keeps the body in motion and muscles in shape.  Sitting inside on the dreary days can't be too much fun and you slip out of shape easily.

So overall I believe your game is helped by continuing to play throughout the year.
