Wedge rules

Chris, thanks for the detailed response. It seems that there are a number of ifs in this new regulation by the USGA. What I wonder is how it will affect how the crowds respond. Afteer all, watching the pros hit the green and seeing the ball come back is quite an experience. It was noted that Tiger is already playing with the new groved clubs. He still seems to have the ability to draw the ball.

Chris, After I posted an earlier reply, I realized that in your column you referred to the fact that this new ruing by the USGA will apply to all irons with measurements of 25 degrees or higher. Now it not only includes wedges, but irons, and that means starting out from approximately the 5 or 6 iron on up.

I think this is an excessive ruling made by the USGA. It affects all golfers in the future and also all  of us that now have clubs and if we,( I would love to be able to compete in one), do get into a competition, would be illegally using clubs that do not conform. At my  age, nearing 69, I certainly can't see the purchase of that many new clubs and for the average golfer it is not doing a lot to promote the game.

While I may not agree with the USGA, I'm hoping one of you out there can help me.

Does anyone know a website where I can find out whether my current clubs (irons / wedges) are compliant or will I have to start looking at getting new clubs.

I just purchased the Mizuno MP-57 last year and don't know if they are compliant.  In addition I'm using Cleveland 900 Series Wedges and CG-12 Wedges --

Where can I go to find out if they are compliant or not?

I guess that my earlier reply didn't get to you. Go to the USGA web site, click on equipment, click on Notices and Announcements,, click on Notices to Manufacturers-New Groove Regulations.

This should answer all of your questions. As to what clubs it affects, a;; clubs with a loft of 25 degrees or more. How many that includes I'm not sure, but possibly at least 6 thru 9 and all wedges for sure.

Chris, thanks for the thorough response...I finally took time to read through the whole thing and now have a better understanding of how the rule reads and will be looking to update my equipment

From what I understand the new wedges vokey makes are designated with U.U on the hosel if it is conforming... anyone else know anything about that?  Here's what I have...
