Does anybody in the Community play on the Golf Channel Am Tour?

  •

No, I have seen the advertising, and it has caught my attention.  If you hear more, I would love to hear about it.

  •

no, but i have seriously thought about it.  i looked in to it last year.  it's pricey but looks like fun.  they have flights for all different handicaps so virtually any ability should be able to play and compete.  and from what i read, they treat you very well and make it like a tour atmosphere.  but what intrigued me the most was some of the courses.  some of the events are on courses that would be a little more difficult to play or expensive to play outside of the event.

They played the Duel in the Desert at Paiute.

no because there is no events played in ohio and i cant afford it but it looks cool

I am assuming you are responsible for the airfare and the sign up covers the costs of the courses and entrance fees.

Tim, thanks for the link, I will have to do some reading tonight on this.  Much appreciated.

A bit pricey for the tournies here in  OK.  I'll probably just stick with the state golf assoc.

Great idea, though for me the expense is a bit steep. If you are flying to a tourney and paying for lodging, food, etc..it adds up to a premium priced long weekend. i am sure Golf Channel puts on a great show, but....

just spot checking prices, they are more, but they aren't terrible.  you are definitely paying a premium for the extras.  i guess you get what you pay for.  for example the "major" at Pinehurst is $600 for 36 holes with one of them on the #2 course.   obviously more than standard greens fees, but not a lot more and you get the tourney atmosphere.  so it comes down to if the experience and "tour treatment" is worth it to you.

also, you get a 10% discount to golf galaxy.  not sure if there are limitations, but i'm looking for a new set of irons.  so i could get a good portion of the membership cost back with the discount.

I have played since 09 an it has grown.  I play in Houston and the tour director is a great person.  Every tournament is filling up .  We get gift cards from golf galaxy for placing in ur flight.  We get to play courses that you can't get on for most of the events.  I enjoy the season end Nationals.  I played in 09 and 2011 in Palm Springs at PGA West.  Greart event.  I finished 12 in 09 and 7 in 2011 in the championship flight.  Hope everybody decides to join and play in some tournaments...  Whats better than gift cards too but more FJ products.......

TDogg, thanks again for the updates on the GC Am.  I think I may be in the same boat as Tim, and stick with local RIGA events this year.  Still going to read up on this one though...

  •

I have played a couple of events, pretty well run and they set the courses up nice. Also have played in a few 2 man scrambles put together by them and those were a blast.

  •

Whaq, what courses did you play?

  •

I've played in a couple of events and they were well run, but very slow play due to golfers taking 10 practice swings, reading 3 foot putts from all 4 sides, et cetera. I may try the fairway golf tour in Texas and Oklahoma this year - my neighbor plays it and loves it.

  •

i didn't realize they did 2 man scrambles.  i haven't played in one of those in years, but i always enjoyed them.  the only problem, i my Dad and i use to play in them, but we were too similar of players.  so we barely did any better than we would have done on our own.
