Shaft Selection

  •

Do you think the shaft you use makes a big difference?

I have the new 913 with the AD-DI6 and I hit the same club at GolfTown yesterday with the Diamana 62 and I was getting about 15 yards less per carry.

I am fully convinced it is a must to be properly fit for your clubs if you intend to bring your best to the course each time you play.

    Experiences, comments, opinions?

Hey, Brian.  I agree very much about fitting and shaft differences.

Although I'm not a Titleist driver user (not yet anyway), I've seen and compared many shafts with each other.  For me, the kick/flex point from the shaft was a big factor.  Generally speaking, mid flex or kick got me the higher launch and gave more carry while the low end kick gave me the lower trajectory with less carry, but it has more run/roll on ground.

If I knew the course that I'll be playing would have hard and running fairways and nothing tricked up where i can't see, I don't mind playing with the low kick shaft, and vice versa.  However, I regularly play the high launch and carry.  (all relative to what I can produce, of course-- which isn't much at all.)

Now that I've written all that, I'm not sure it has any relevance to your topic.  (just golf gabbing here.)

Yes makes a huge difference! Was fit last month in Vegas and my AD DI 6x was low 6000s and the new Diamana D+ 72 brought spin down to high 4000s!

  •

I hear you on the higher vs. lower trajectory.  I typically have a lower ball flight with more run, but since switching over to the AD, I have picked up much more hight and the carry is pretty good too.  I am tweaking the settings a little bit and trying a lower setting, around 8.5 from the standard 9.5.

And by the way, everything is relevant in the community.  Sometimes it is nice to just chat.

Hope you had a great T-day and have a great rest of holiday season!

6000's!?!?!?! That is the spin of an eight iron.

My over the top move added to it , it dropped to 5600 when I flattened the shaft and came from the inside! The 70+ gram shaft should help, was carrying it 255, per monitor! Want to try the Kiyoshi Oban Black shaft for kicks!

The shaft is more important than the clubhead. It is the engine that provides the energy in the swing. 6000 RPM is definately in the 8 iron range, but 4000 RPM is still a bit high for a driver. Todd, time to see both your fitter and your PGA Professional!

I have the AD DI 7X in my 910D3.  It is by far the best shaft for me and has worked wonders in my fairway % and confidence.  I have a couple of buddies that have picked up AD 6's for theirs.

Fitting for clubs makes all the difference in the world.

We still need a chat room feature for quick conversations.  DG???

Thanks TT, I currently have the AD6 and I am getting the 7 to try as they didnt have it in the cart the day I was fit.  Not sure if the 10grams will make much of a difference.

That's where I found those numbers at a Titleist fitter, the spin rates will drop even more when I get on proper plane! I'm looking forward to getting back on the monitor and testing out shafts!

I had the purple Kiyoshi in my 910 before the Tour Z Accra.  It had a really great feel to it I just hit the Accra a touch further.  I lent out the Kiyoshi to an assistant pro I know and he pounds it with that stick.

How it currently stands the Motore Tour Spec will be staying in the 913.

I went with a Fujikura Blur regular flex and have the swing weight set at D4. For an old guy like me, with a swing speed around 90 mph, it works great.

Cannot express how important the shaft is in a club. When I got fit for my current driver I hit 10 different shafts and just by chance one of the stock shafts was best for me. Just because it more expensive doesn't mean its the right one for YOU. I got fit for the 913 and between the stock shaft and another one (can't think of what it is off top of my head, its written down and in my golf bag), there was a 1000 RPM difference. Get fit and hit every shaft they have available.

    Thanks, Brian.

Sometimes, it's not easy to tech-talk for me because of my over par ability in golf, but the truth is, I love all of it.  Understanding the fitting concept within our given static and dynamics are the same for all (well, length/strength will vary-- a lot less in my case).  Anyway, it's probably just a complex thing that made me type dumb words like "relevance".  Yes, it's nice to chat about it.

Great topic!  Thank you for the post.

I can't dig up my stats from my fitting but when I go to the Shoe Box for testing, I am coming up with the following:

Launch Angle: 7.9 - 8.3 which is a bit low

    Spin Rate: 2547 - 2597 rpm

    Ball Speed: 148 - 150

    Club Head Speed: 106-107

Need to get back and test again with my new driver and shaft.  I will update once I get them.
