SOME OF US TEXANS( ME) WOULD SAY IF ITS COLD ENOUGH TO FREEZE YOUR FEET DON'T PLAY MON.

When it gets cooler I just wear longer socks.  Thick ones can get sweaty and cold so I just stick with longer socks.

I double up on the socks but I don't use two cotton socks because my shoes will feel too tight. I use a pair of dress socks then put the cotton socks over the dress socks. The dress socks are thin enough to fit under the cotton sock. This way the shoes don't feel too tight and I get a little extra warmth on really cold days ....

Try some smartwools (sorry FJ), very warm but light and breathable.
