FootJoy StaSof Tour Star

  •

Okay, now what is the difference between the "Star" glove and the regular StaSof?? Now my curiosity is aroused.

  •

Have we been able to come up with a logical conclusion yet? Any feedback from FJ staff?

Just saw this picture and description on 3balls.com of the Stasof Star glove.

The star within the inside of the glove is the symbol representing that these are the special, limited availability Sta-Sof Star glove. These gloves are hard to come by and are typically reserved for Tour players and FootJoy Staff members.

Tyler HigleypulplvrI find this interesting, as nothing was said at Fairhaven during the FJAI about any such glove.  FJ presented us with one of each type of glove they currently make and market in the US.  None was noted as a StaSof Star, nor was any comment made about a separate StaSof for Tour players.  Either way, the ones offered on Golflocker.com aren't for me because they do not have Cadet sizes.  I couldn't even buy any of their StaSofs that are on sale because the Cadets are not available in Medium.  Remember, guys.  "Most men think they are larger than they actually are."  (Maria, FJ Fairhaven, talking about glove size.)

That is the exact reason I posted about the gloves. I was hoping to get someone from Fairhaven to chime in as to the differences, ie tighter tolerances, etc.

As to getting the Cadet Medium size, I just got a half dozen from the Pro at my course. He ordered them direct from FootJoy and no problem. Also I understand that Edwin Watts varries them, but haven't actually gone there to find out.

eagle3, I was specifically referring to the gloves offered on Golflocker.com.  I have plenty of StaSofs in Cadet Medium and have not had any difficulty finding them when needed.  I was simply pointing out that the StaSof "Star" glove and the "on sale" StaSofs offered by Golflocker.com do not show availability in Cadet Medium.

By the way, why haven't we heard anything from FJ Staff on this one?

On closer inspection there is a small star on the packaging. It was also a couple dollars cheaper.  It is probably an older model and no one ever noticed the star on the package. So Golf locker takes and markets it like it is something special. Cheap trick much like what TGW does by stating list prices way over what they really are to make it look like you are getting a bigger discount. Sleeze tactics if you asked me.

Maria has been in Thailand and hard to reach.  The scoop on these is that they tend to come from more select skins that tend to be slightly thinner, when I say slightly I mean it.  If it did not have the star sticker on it the difference would more then likely go unnoticed.

    Thanks for the info Devin.

I won't get my Star gloves until Friday, they were accidentally left out of the box that I received on Monday. Darn.

I received my Stasof Star gloves a few minutes ago and Devin was right, if you did not see the star on the inside, you would be hard pressed to tell they were not regular StaSof gloves. The package was the previous models and there is a very small star under the size sticker as well as another sticker towards the bottom that says "Taction- APL- Thin Select". So I am of the belief that these are closeout from last year. They are very nice gloves though. They do feel thinner and ever so slightly lighter than my comparison glove, my last free glove that I won in the who's going to win the WGC Match Play Tournament. They also look slightly whiter than regular StaSof. Only time will tell if they are going to be better than the regular StaSof glove. Hope this helps in your decision making.

  •

Thank you Don. I will see if I can find a few.

Just ordered 6 gloves from golflocker.com

  •

the gloves came in - they are labeled as "select".

I tried the first "Star" glove today and was very happy with the way it worked and felt. It definitely feels thinner than the regular StaSof glove. If you get some, I think you'll be happy as well.
