Performance Base Layer

I played golf today using the new Footjoy Base Layer. Wore it under Footjoy Performance mock and with a wind vest. Temps were in the mid 40's and I was very comfortable. Unlike the UA product I did not get over heated and break out in a sweat when climbing hills. There is nothing worse then to get sweaty when in cold weather.

I hope in the FJ makes some base layers for under the waist.

 

The base layer is an excellent product.

I'm sure FJ will get  around to offering Base Layer to match it's great tops.

Anything will be an improvement.

OK, so I'm waiting for the usual B Holl twisted comment or jab.....

I'm also ticked because we got 3 inches of snow today, so I'm toasted for the year now.... The only sweaty I'll be is shoveling....

Well I did forget to pack my special winter flask. Had to subsist entierly on beer, pretzels, and cigars for an entire 18 holes. I'm not so young any more I don't think I could do it again.

I normally wear UA base layer and they are very warm.  However, I feel so tighly wound.  The FJ looks like it is a looser fit.  I know you said you do not over heat, but they are very warm?

It is a great fit f2h. The problem I always had with UA is when you are walking up a hill or some activity which would increase the heart rate after a period of time you feel way too warm and begin to sweat. The FJ under-layer seems to wick off moisture and not overheat.

In cold weather I would prefer to be a tad on the cool side instead of having damp under layers. I have been out in the high 30's with this a FJ performance mock and a FJ outer layer and was quite comfortable.

I usually wear an UA base layer and experience just that!!!  I think i'll have to look into the FJ base layer

I'm doing the same thing as Peacoben.  I wear an Under Armour base layer because there are simply no FJ Base Layers in my area.

Is the FJ base layer tight fit or loose? I dont like loose fit cause it gets bunched up. I deal with the UA base because its tight and I can move in it even though I do sweat a little.

peacoben, FP, and Whaq... I have both UA ColdGear and the new FJ Baselayer, so let me give you the 411.

UA is definately warm, but as mentioned, very tight. In years past I've liked that because it made me feel "secure", especially helping my back in the cold. But as BHoll has said, it's warm enough to genrate a bit of sweat if the temps rise at all.

I got the FJ Base Layer as soon as it came out this year, and put it to use this fall. First, it is not as tight as the UA product in any way. It it what I would call secure, meaning it does not allow drafts to enter in around your arms or on your back. The shirts also have a longer tail length so that they do not pull up with a swing motion, allowing them to stay tucked in and not let the drafts in. The garments allow for easy motion and don't make you feel constrained. And as BHoll says, the moisture management is just excellent.

I purchased mine through TGW.com, and got both colors at the same time. So FP, get Mom or Dads credit card and you're in!

You need air between your skin and each layer of clothing to keep warm.  UA is too tight for sure.  As for the lower extremities, I wear wool or corduroy pants for winter golf, and haven't gotten cold legs yet.  You'd be surprised how many  golfers are layered like Tour Pros on top wearing regular golf pants, freezing between shots.

Thanks Tar Heel, great information! What do you suggest on size? I wear an XL in the UA cold gear, should I get XL in the base layer as well?
