A HOT JACKET

A HOT JACKET

  •

Just got an email from Golf Partners Club, of which I am a current member, regarding a new "HEATED" jacket by ANSAI. Seems that they claim it is heated by a small lithium battery system integrated heating system and is made of a Carboflex material. It has two warming panels in the front and one in the back. It is suggested that one can wear it while riding or walking to the next shot, but for comfort and flexibility during your swing it is suggested that you remove it. What a hassel. I can remember heated socks I had at one point for Ice Fishing. They were great until one of the wires got bent by accident and it resulted in a very uncomfortable Hot Foot.

    I like FJs system better.

Sounds like a pain to me. If I can't swing in a jacket I don't care what it does for me otherwise; its useless. That idea will fail.

One of my golf partners bought 2 heated vests, 1 for him & 1 for his wife. He figured he would give them a try for cold weather golf. He was supposed to charge the battery and then put them in the vest to get it heated. 1 set of batteries never charged and the other charged but did not have enough power to heat the vest. Needless to say both vests were returned. I don't know what brand the vest were, but another gadget that doesn't work.

    Interesting.

To be fair, this type of technology really isn't appropriate for golf, mostly because of the movement and flexibility needed to play the game. These heated devices are more for spectators who are sitting in the stands.

As an example, I have a heated jacket from an olympics back in the 1990's in Japan (Nagano). The jacket was given yo us for the skiing events when we'd be outside in the really cold temperatures. The jacket was fueled by a small butane cartridge connected to an elaborate heating element that had panels across the back and on your chest. I always felt weird puttin git on because when you consider today's realities, this thing was wired like a bomb....

Anyway, it was indeed an unbelieveably warm jacket and if it wasn't so heavy, it would have been awesome. The funniest thing about it though was this. Since it go so warm and there was literally heat coils running inside, it needed venting. People walking behind me would see smoke coming from a small hole where the venting was in the rear of the coat. It was hilarious to see people looking at me wondering what was going on.

So seriously... if it's that cold outside get a cart heater or do not go out!

North Face has made some items in the past that are heated for climbing, but not sure it would translate into golf based on weight/flexability. layering system by FJ works for me!

The less clothes I have to wear to keep warm while playing the better! Can't wait to try out the FJ base layer, I use UA most of the time but it is a bit restricting.

I have played in some pretty awful, cold weather, but have never considered heated clothing items for golf.  Layering has always worked best, even when I've had to include long underwear, heavy pants, rain pants, and two pairs of socks just to keep my lower body comfortable.  I do like the idea of heated carts, even here in Texas, in the winter.  That way, you can warm up between shots and as a result have a fairly decent game without all the bulky outerlayers.
