Can anyone compare for me???

Can anyone compare for me???

I need to get a new full zip rain jacket and have 2 FJ models that I really can't discern the differences.  Anyone tried BOTH the DryJoys Performance Light rain jacket AND the DryJoys Tour Collection rain jacket???  Would there be a difference in either warmth or rain resistance???  Wouldn't think so on the waterproof part, but maybe in the thickness/insulation.  Any input would be great!

    Hi Welch,

Great question. I was just speaking with Whitney Trimble on our Outerwear team and he confirmed what you said about the waterproofing - both garments come with the same 2-year limited waterproof warranty although I can tell you from experience, if waterproofing is your main concern, go with the Tour Collection jacket. They used new material this year that allows the water to bead up and run off the jacket. It's pretty impressive. In addition, all the seams are sealed and it comes with a waterproof zipper. If you play in the rain a lot, this is your jacket.

Many of the features I just mentioned, however, also add to the weight. The waterproof zipper, the Cinch system, the tafetta lining, elastic bottom and exterior fabric all make it slightly heavier than the Performance Light jacket which has a mesh lining, as opposed to the tafetta, and is more along the lines of a windbreaker.

The Tour Collection jacket will be more waterproof and probably slightly warmer but the Performance Light will be lighter. I guess it all depends on what features are most important but you really can't go wrong. I hope this helps!

im no help for this one sorry

Thanks Chris, really appreciate the feedback beyond the basic product descriptions....I already have a more basic windshirt, so this will be for either HEAVY rain and/or cooler temperatures....I'm thinking the Tour Collection jacket.  Not really too concerned about actual jacket weight, as I'm thinking both will offer good flexibility.  Thanks again!

A while back some foul weather jackets had temperature ratings IE 40-60, 45- 65 etc. Does FJ have any recommended temperature ratings for their outerwear?

    Tour Collection is my preference

  •

Mondo, is there any specific reason??  I like the looks a little better anyway, and I'm already leaning towards the Tour Collection.

Seems Chris is "on the spot" again with great advice. While I have not experienced both in play, I did a bit of side by side in a shop recently. When I considered what my needs were, it came down to when I was most likely going to use the jacket. You sort of qualified yourself into the Tour Collection jacket since you said "rainy and cold weather warmth."

The Performance Light is more for rainy times in warmer climates, where you don't want to get all steamed up and hot.

I opted for the lighter jacket since it wasn't in my ensemble. Good Q and good shopping!

I like the Performance Light more for my needs. Do not often get rain and really cold while playing here.

I have a slightly different but similar question - assuming that I want to purchase the Tour Collection - what is the difference between the "rain jacket" and the "long sleeve rain shirt"?  I have the short sleeve Tour Collection rain shirt and like it a lot but don't know which of the long sleeve versions to purchase?

    tmass,

Welcome to the Community and thanks for the question. Hopefully some other members will chime in as well but I can tell you that the only noticeable difference between the Tour Collection rain jacket and long-sleeve rain shirt is the zipper. The rain jacket offers a full length zip while the rain shirt is a three-quarter zip. You're going to get the same performance and waterproof features in both garments. If you have a SS rain shirt, my personal suggestion would be to go with the rain jacket. The SS rain shirt and long-sleeve rain shirt are pretty similar in that they're pullovers so I would want the option of a full zip jacket for variety. Just my thoughts.

Thanks Chris.  Based on your input I agree the jacket is a better solution for me.

    Chris,

Do both jackets have an elastic waist?  I thought one of the styles had the kind of lose bottom.  I like the style of jackets/rainshirts that doesn't have the elastic around the bottom.  I may be thinking of the performance light model.

    memphis,

Both the rain jacket and long-sleeve rain shirt offer the option of an open-bottom construction (in select styles) which is one of our best new features in this year's line, in my opinion.

Thanks for the info Chris.  I like that open bottom design as well.  Good to know.
